Mumenti recently presented a cheque for €17,118.58 to Hospice Malta following Mumenti 5, a theatre production that brings together different artistic disciplines with the main support of APS Bank. Held in October 2025, the event united emerging talent, organisers and audiences in a shared effort to raise funds for Hospice Malta’s free palliative care services.

Through the commitment of everyone involved, Mumenti 5 made a meaningful contribution to families who rely on Hospice Malta’s care. The cheque presentation, held at Hospice Malta, recognised the collective effort behind the initiative, with APS Bank among the supporters of the production.

Jeremy Vassallo, CSR Manager at APS Bank, said: “Presenting this cheque at Hospice Malta was a reminder of why these initiatives matter. We thank everyone who took part and helped make this contribution possible.”

Rachael Blackburn, Head of Culture at APS Bank, added: “Mumenti 5 shows what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose. We are proud to support initiatives that give space to emerging talent while also making a real difference in our community.”

The post Over €17,000 raised for Hospice Malta through Mumenti 5, supported by APS Bank first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Well over four hundred HSBC Bank Malta employees participated in last year’s Volunteer Leave Day initiative, dedicating a day of paid leave to supporting the local community through volunteering at a variety of organisations.

The initiative, a cornerstone of HSBC Malta’s corporate responsibility efforts, provides employees with the opportunity to contribute their time and skills to meaningful projects that make a tangible difference. From assisting vulnerable groups at social initiatives like Soup Kitchen Malta to helping preserve Malta’s cultural and natural heritage at locations such as the Notarial Archives, Argotti Gardens and Ħaġar Qim Temples, employees engaged in a wide range of activities aimed at supporting the community.

Participants described the experience as both enriching and humbling. Many noted how volunteering gave them new perspectives on the challenges faced by others and the importance of contributing to the well-being of society.

“The Volunteer Leave Day is more than just a day off work; it’s a chance for our colleagues to connect with the community and support the causes that matter most,” said Geoffrey Fichte, CEO of HSBC Bank Malta. “At HSBC, we believe in being an active participant in the communities we serve, and it’s inspiring to see our team come together to create a positive impact.”

The Volunteer Leave Day initiative reflects HSBC Malta’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of care and collaboration. Through its community-focused programmes, the bank continues to promote values of inclusion, sustainability, and solidarity, ensuring that its impact goes beyond business and into the heart of the communities it serves.

The post HSBC Malta Volunteer Leave Day sees 421 employees giving back to the community first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Bank of Valletta recently partnered with Colour My Run Malta, sponsoring the annual 5K Fun Run as part of the bank’s well-being challenge promoting physical, mental and financial well-being. This was a first for the bank, an initiative that saw part of the proceeds from each applicant going towards Richmond Foundation, coupled with a generous donation made by Bank of Valletta and other co-sponsors of the Fun Run.

Bank of Valletta CEO Kenneth Farrugia presented the donation to Daniela Calleja Bitar, CEO of Richmond Foundation over the Christmas period. The presentation was held in the presence of Nathan Farrugia from Colour My Run Malta and Daniel Magrin, head of Marketing and Product Lifecycle Management at Bank of Valletta.

BOV’s nationwide campaign incentivises the public to start planning for a sound financial future through a holistic approach involving the physical, mental and financial aspects of well-being. This initiative brought together local key players in the fields of physical, mental and financial wellness and promoted the importance of investing time in both physical activity and a healthy mindset.

Speaking during the presentation, the bank’s CEO commended the invaluable efforts of the Richmond Foundation in fostering a healthy mindset within the community. “Our collaboration with Colour My Run Malta is an important aspect of our efforts in highlighting the importance of adopting a healthy, physical lifestyle. Being active and engaging in fun activities helps us steer away from the pitfalls of stress and routine. However, well-being also extends to our finances, and today more than ever, planning for our retirement at an early stage will have immense benefits in the future. As Malta’s largest bank, with so many ties to local communities, we have a duty to instil awareness on financial well-being, and our partnership with Colour My Run was a great opportunity to raise awareness on financial stability in a fun and active manner.”

Farrugia, the founder of UN Limited (organizers of Colour My Run), expressed that UN Limited passionately believes exercise should be enjoyable to inspire non-athletes to remain active and maintain healthy lifestyles. “This is why we are so thankful to BOV for their support in growing this event and getting more people out to run, walk or dance the Colour My Run route from Fort Manoel. We are thankful to Midi for allowing us to use their amazing venue and to all the other sponsors who aligned with our values and beliefs on this project. We chose Richmond Foundation because we believe that physical and mental fitness must tie in together. They cannot be separated, and education around the importance of this fact is central to the mission of our chosen beneficiary.”

Calleja Bitar commented: “Richmond is proud to partner with UN limited to celebrate the powerful connection between exercise and mental well-being. A special thank you to BOV for bringing Colour My Run 2024 to life, reminding us all that movement, colour and community can brighten both body and mind.”

The post BOV colour my run proceeds donated to Richmond Foundation first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

HSBC Malta Foundation and Hudson Foundation have partnered with Inspire to support two impactful projects: the creation of a new outdoor playground in Bulebel for LinC students with autism and challenging behaviours, and major renovations at Inspire’s Marsaskala facility, which will benefit children and adults with disabilities attending various programs.

The outdoor playground aims to provide an inclusive and engaging space for children of different abilities. Equipped with trampolines, swings, and soft flooring, the playground is designed to encourage physical activity in a safe environment, while offering a controlled sensory experience and a space for social interaction. Outdoor activities have been shown to help children manage energy levels, reduce stress, and improve behaviour management, contributing to their overall well-being.

Meanwhile, the renovation of Inspire’s Marsaskala facility focuses on enhancing infrastructure to better meet the needs of its service users. Plans include modernising the premises, installing energy-efficient ventilation and air-conditioning systems, and implementing embellishment works to create a more welcoming and sustainable environment.

Speaking about the collaboration, HSBC Malta Foundation CEO Geoffrey Fichte said: “This partnership with the Hudson Foundation represents a significant milestone for the HSBC Malta Foundation, marking our first joint initiative with another foundation in many years. By working together to support Inspire, we are reaffirming our commitment to fostering inclusion, accessibility, and opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. Projects like these reflect our belief in creating environments where everyone can thrive.”

Alfie Borg, Hudson Holdings Ltd. Founder and Chairman, added: “I am thrilled to announce our co-sponsorship with HSBC to create an inclusive playground for children with disabilities. This partnership embodies our shared commitment to fostering environments where every child can play, learn, and grow without barriers. Together, we are building a community that celebrates diversity and inclusion.”

Antonello Gauci, CEO of Inspire said: “”We are incredibly grateful for the generous support. The new outdoor playground in Bulebel and the renovations at our Marsascala facility will make a profound difference in the lives of our service users. This collaboration demonstrates the power of partnerships in driving positive change, and we are proud to be part of this initiative.”

These projects are part of Inspire’s ongoing efforts to create therapeutic and educational facilities that address the unique needs of its service users. With the support of HSBC Malta Foundation and Hudson Foundation, Inspire continues to enhance the quality of its services and interventions, further cementing its position as a leader in supporting persons with disabilities and their families.

Governor Professor Edward Scicluna presented a donation to Bernadette Bonnici Kind, Chairperson Hospice Malta during a ceremony held at the new St Michael Hospice Complex in Santa Venera on 24 April.

The funds were collected by the Central Bank staff during the Pink October/Movember activities organised by the Bank’s Cultural Committee.

Ms Bonnici Kind acknowledged the generous commitment of the Bank’s staff and encouraged such initiatives and activities organised by the Bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.

The Bank organised various activities aimed at raising awareness and funding for cancer prevention, research, and education. A wear pink day was organised on 27 October with pink ribbons handed out to all employees upon entering the premises. In addition, a month-long No-shave November campaign was organised, wherein all male employees were invited to grow their moustache and/or beard till the end of November.

Such events were organised, not only to engage employees but also to help spread important messages about health and well-being throughout the organization and beyond. By actively involving its staff in these initiatives, the Bank fosters a sense of community and solidarity while making a meaningful contribution to important causes.

The post CBM staff donation to Hospice Malta first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

FinanceMalta has recently extended its support to the Soup Kitchen OFM as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aiming to lead the way and set an example in bridging the gap between corporate success and social contribution.

Driven by the conviction that a hands-on approach delivers immediate, tangible benefits to those in need, and that the direct engagement in community support activities makes a positive impact while also sets a powerful example in the financial services industry and beyond, FinanceMalta opted to contribute through in-kind donations and volunteering at the soup kitchen that is run by the Franciscan Friars in Valletta.

As part of this initiative, a team from FinanceMalta gave a helping hand to the volunteers at the Soup Kitchen OFM in distributing nourishing meals to the guests. This was complemented with the donation of essential goods such as food items, personal hygiene products, corporate bags and stationery that would make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of those receiving assistance from the soup kitchen.

FinanceMalta Chairman George Vella commented: “We firmly believe in the importance of giving back to the community and we are privileged that, as a high-profile organisation in the financial services industry, we had the opportunity to directly engage with and support such a noble and impactful initiative. The Soup Kitchen OFM’s mission deeply resonates with FinanceMalta’s core values of social responsibility and community empowerment, which we strive to uphold in all our endeavours.”

FinanceMalta sincerely thanks Fr Marcellino Micallef and the Soup Kitchen OFM team for their dedication and hard work in serving the community.

The post FinanceMalta supports Valletta Soup Kitchen in CSR initiative first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Mental health is a pressing concern that touches each one of us, directly or indirectly. For three decades, Richmond Foundation has been a beacon of hope, providing support to those grappling with mental health issues and their families. This year, Malta Enterprise as part of its CSR initiatives, has put together a memorable recital which saw the participation of two extraordinary artists violist Carmine Lauri and classical guitarist Simon Schembri to celebrate Richmond’s relentless efforts in raising mental health awareness, particularly within the workplace.

Kurt Farrugia CEO of Malta Enterprise stated that we passionately believe in the crucial connection between entrepreneurship and mental well-being. We recognize that the spark of innovation and the drive of entrepreneurship are best nurtured in an environment of mental wellness. By supporting the Richmond Foundation, we are not only helping raise awareness and providing much-needed resources, but we are also reinforcing the importance of this vital link.

Dr Ivan Mifsud, Chairman of the Richmond Foundation remarked that the CSR initiative by its very nature represented the various facets of mental wellbeing. We need a healthy society to foster an economy that thrives, we need to enjoy the arts and beautiful surroundings to safeguard our wellbeing, we need to know where to reach for support when we need to recover our mental wellness. This represents the gist of Richmond Foundation’s message over the past 30 years, a message which has increasingly reached a wider audience, who continue to reach out to us for help. We are extremely grateful to Malta Enterprise for sending such a strong message, and to the Sponsors who have contributed to make this event happen.

HSBC Malta has once again been recognised for its ongoing dedication to the mental wellbeing of its employees. The bank was recently awarded the Richmond Foundation Gold Certificate for a third time after completing mental health first aid training for 10% of its workforce.

The first aid training was administered to line managers and several other willing employees in order to equip them with skills necessary to help their colleagues, and themselves, through challenging periods. The training also focused on ways of spotting signs of mental distress in the workplace.

Having been the first corporate entity to receive the certification back in 2018, HSBC Malta is proud to be awarded the Gold Certificate once again – a testament to the bank’s continued dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment for its whole team.

The award certificate was presented to HSBC Malta Chief Compliance Officer Mandy R Falzon and Interim Head of Human Resources David Perotti by Richmond Foundation CEO Daniela Calleja Bitar and Assistant Manager Learning and Development Denise Brincat.

Richmond Foundation is a leading provider of several community-based mental health services across Malta and Gozo, supporting thousands of people every day through its invaluable work.

In line with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which emphasizes anxiety as one of the most common mental health challenges faced by individuals, HSBC Malta is placing a continued emphasis of mental wellbeing and anxiety at the workplace.

“Our partnership with the Richmond Foundation allows us to provide crucial support and resources to our employees, enabling them to address any mental health concerns they might have, including anxiety. With a 20-year history of working together, we look forward to further strengthening this relationship in the future,” said HSBC Malta Chief Compliance Officer Mandy R Falzon.

The post HSBC Malta awarded Richmond Foundation Gold Certificate for its commitment to employee mental wellbeing first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
