Air Liquide and STMicroelectronics are planning to launch a collaborative initiative to accelerate the development of digital solutions for industrial applications, according to a press statement.

Through this initiative, ST anticipates supporting Air Liquide in its digital transformation, providing guidance and solutions while Air Liquide expects to work with ST in developing technologies and solutions for industrial applications. This cooperation will extend the long-standing business relationship established over the past decades between both companies, the parties believe.

This cooperation is seen to extend “the trusted and long-standing business relationship established over the past decades” between Air Liquide and ST. Air Liquide supplies gas, materials and equipment to ST’s manufacturing sites located in France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, the Philippines and Singapore.

The parties anticipate collaborating to identify cases where ST’s technologies would best fit industrial and logistics needs, and then prototype the selected digital solutions and test them in Air Liquide’s operating environments, according to the press statement. The parties say they have already identified a selection of projects and ideas in domains such as asset tracking and management, predictive maintenance and the cybersecurity of industrial assets.

“Building on the strong and mutually beneficial relationship established over many years, ST and Air Liquide are moving to further enrich this expedition. Our goal is to support the digital transformation of Air Liquide, one of our major and strategic suppliers, by providing state of the art solutions leveraging our products and technologies portfolio to successfully accelerate their program in this domain,” said Joël Hartmann, Executive Vice President for Digital & Smart Power Technology and Digital Front-End Manufacturing of STMicroelectronics.

“We are confident that this additional cooperation with ST, a long-time strategic customer of the Group, will enable the further acceleration of our digital transformation while helping ST in better addressing the technological needs in the field of Industrial Internet of Things. This initiative is a further illustration of our open-innovation strategy partnering with customers, academics, suppliers and start-ups,” said Guy Salzgeber, Executive Vice-President and member of the Air Liquide group’s Executive Committee supervising industrial activities in Europe.

The post Air Liquide and STM to team up on digital transformation first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Malta and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the fields of emerging technologies and cybersecurity, according to a press statement issued by the Maltese government’s Department of Information (DOI).

The MoU was signed by Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy, and Innovation Silvio Schembri on behalf of Malta, and Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Communications and Information, Janil Puthucheary, on behalf of Singapore, in the presence of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela.

“It is an honour to see both countries ready to strengthen and develop their relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding. We look forward to sharing our internationally-recognised achievements in the blockchain, innovative technologies, and AI sectors based on the credibility and positive reputation to doing business,” said Mr Schembri.

“Malta and Singapore may be geographically distant, but we are united by our similarities,” said Minister Abela. “We are both island states with small domestic markets and an important export sector. Being a strategic regional gateway, Malta can be used as a platform to European and North African markets. On the other hand, Singapore is increasingly assuming the role of a strategic gateway to Asia and Australasia. Moreover, we are both former British colonies, and both members of the Commonwealth of Nations and of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). All this shows there is ample scope for further cooperation between our two countries. Areas of mutual interest such as trade, maritime affairs, and education are obvious, but we can explore and look beyond this too,” the minister added.

“Today we have made another significant step forward to further enhance the economic and commercial relationship between Singapore and Malta. Singapore is an important Asian hub for financial services, maritime affairs, logistics, and the digital economy,” said Anton Buttigieg, Chief Executive Officer of Trade Malta. “The Business Forum and the B2B networking session have helped to continue strengthening Malta’s reputation as an ideal partner in Europe and in the Mediterranean,” he added<g class="gr_ gr_16 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep" id="16" data-gr-id="16">.</g>

A delegation comprising 60 representatives from Malta-based companies and Maltese agencies visited Singapore, right after another mission to South Korea, headed by Mr Schembri.

<g class="gr_ gr_16 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep" id="16" data-gr-id="16">Both</g> sector-focused missions focussed on promoting commercial opportunities in virtual currencies and innovative technologies, cybersecurity, digital games, and esports, and were organised by Trade Malta and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, and the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry, according to the DOI press release.

The post Malta and Singapore sign MoU on tech cooperation first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
