The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Identity Malta Agency teamed up for a new weekly outbound service to start on 18 July, under which the two organisations will receive still-abroad applications every Thursday, according to a press statement published by the government’s Department of Information (DOI). The applications will arrive between 9.00 am and 12.00 pm at the chamber’s office in Valletta.

Employers who are members of the Malta Chamber of Commerce will be able to set an appointment and submit up to five applications a week. The officers, who are currently undergoing training with ID Malta, will only be accepting applications from those employers who will be directly employing the prospective applicants, as the press statement says.

This announcement was made by Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms, Citizenship and Simplification of Administrative Procedures Julia Farrugia Portelli, during a dialogue meeting for members of the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry with the Prime Minister.

Alongside this initiative, Ms Farrugia Portelli announced that a pilot project with two of Malta’s major economic pillars will make way for an online platform. This online platform, which will be gradually enrolled later this year, will enable employers to electronically apply for still-abroad applicants.

“These new initiatives will further smooth out the application process so as to meet customer demands better,” said Ms Farrugia Portelli.

The post Chamber of Commerce, Identity Malta to launch new service first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

The Summit of the Two Shores, which was officially launched in Valletta in January 2019, welcomed the Foreign Ministers of the 5+5 Western Mediterranean Dialogue on 24 June at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille, together with representatives of a number of regional and international organisations and institutions and civil society representatives gathered, according to a press statement issued by the government’s Department of Information (DOI).

Malta hosted one of the five preparatory forums in April 2019 held in the run-up to the summit which focused on youth, education and mobility.

The forum entitled “Investing in a Mediterranean Generation” brought together mostly youths from the region who spoke about their aspirations for the region. Maltese civil society representatives attended these five fora and have already received positive reactions from potential development partners, as the press release says.

President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron engaged with the ten Chefs de File, including Simone Borg from Malta, the main representatives of civil society from each participating state that spoke on their experiences and their aspirations for the future, according to the DOI press release.

The Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela, who was accompanied by Malta’s Ambassador to the Republic of France Helga Mizzi, highlighted the significant role played by civil society in this process, placing emphasis on youth potential and on the need to seize this opportunity to open up space for youth-led initiative in the region.

At the end of the summit, Mr Abela held a courtesy meeting with the recently appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Algeria Sabri Boukadoum, wherein they discussed the enhancement of bilateral relations.

The post Maltese Foreign Minister Carmelo Abela participates in the Summit of the Two Shores first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

HSBC Bank Malta Plc teamed up with export promotion agency TradeMalta on opening a meeting space on TradeMalta’s premises at Tigné Point, Sliema; offering an incubator for clients looking to discover international opportunities in a changing trade world, according to a press statement sent to Business Malta.

Under the agreement, the two parties will work on several joint projects including country-specific seminars, training and education programmes, and international trade missions. The two sides consider the current partnership to be the development of their growing relationship, after having recently renewed a strategic support agreement for another three years.

“We recognise the role collaboration plays in bringing new ideas in a changing global trade scenario. HSBC is committed to supporting business and export innovation and we are looking forward to continuing our strong and established relationship with TradeMalta,” said Michel Cordina, Executive Director and Head of Business Development of HSBC Malta.

Malta International Business Awards deadline nearing

HSBC is also the strategic sponsor of TradeMalta’s signature ‘Malta International Business Awards’ (MIBA) offered for the second time in 2019. Applications for the awards will be closed at 17:00 on Friday 28 June 2019, while finalists will be announced on 31 July. Winners will be announced during a ceremony on 22 November.

The awards are open to all enterprises with a good internationalisation story to tell, be they exporters of products, providers of services, franchisors or international businesses with head office functions in Malta. Participants can make submissions for one or more award categories.

A brainchild of TradeMalta with the strategic support of HSBC Malta, the initiative enjoys the endorsement of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, the sponsorship of audit firm Grant Thornton, the partnership of marketing communications firm BPC International Ltd, and the architectural signing company Big Exhibits.

The post HSBC and TradeMalta open incubator room for firms eyeing foreign markets first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
