										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) in Malta dropped to 1.87% in May 2019, going down from 1.91% in the previous month, according to the figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO).</strong></p>



<p>The twelve-month moving average rate for May stood at a 1.54% rate, according to the NSO press release.</p>



<p>The NSO figures show also that the highest annual inflation was recorded in the sector of food (4.82%) and in housing (2.44%). The lowest inflation was registered in the clothing and footwear field (-1.61%) and water, electricity, gas and fuels (0.03%).</p>



<p>In addition, the largest upward impact on annual inflation in food was of 1.04 percentage points (pp), due to a price growth of take-away service.  </p>



<p>The second and third largest impact was recorded in transports and communications, with 0.38pp and also housing (0.19pp), mainly because of higher costs of fuels and house maintenance services respectively, according to the NSO figures published. </p>



<p>Furthermore, the downward impact was registered in clothing and footwear, with 0.11, mainly caused by lower prices of footwear.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Malta’s annual rate of inflation as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) remained at a constant rate of 1.7% in March 2019, according to figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO). The twelve-month moving average rate for May stood at 1.7%, too.</strong></p>



<p>The largest upward impact on annual inflation was measured in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index with 0.67 percentage points (pp), due to higher prices of vegetables. </p>



<p>After that, the index of restaurants and hotels saw an increase of 0.59 percentage points. In addition, housing, electricity, gas and other fuels index rose up by 0.18pp.</p>



<p>The largest downward impact was recorded in the education index with a decrease of 0.09pp. Clothing and footwear 0.02pp. </p>



<p>The furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance index and the clothing and footwear index dropped by 0.01pp, respectively.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Malta’s annual inflation rate as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) was 1.91% in April, according to figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO). </strong></p>



<p>NSO statistics show that the measure was up from 1.89% in March and the twelve-month moving average rate for April stood at a rate of 1.47%.</p>



<p>Food and housing sectors saw the highest annual inflation rates of 4.81% and 2.43%, respectively. The lowest annual inflation rate appeared in the water, electricity, gas and fuels sector (0.1%), while the clothing and footwear segment went down by 0.35%, according to NSO figures.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) was 1.89% in March, slowing from 1.92% in February, according to figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO).</strong></p>



<p>The twelve-month moving average rate for March 2019 stood at a rate of 1.38%, according to the NSO.</p>



<p>In March, the food segment saw inflation of 4.81% and the housing segment was up by 2.67%. However, recreation and culture saw inflation of 0.2%, while water, electricity, gas and other fuels segment was only up by 0.1%, according to NSO figures.</p>

The twelve-month moving average rate was 1.7%. </strong></p>



<p>The most significant upward impact on annual inflation was measured in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index (3.8%), followed by the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels segment (2.3%).</p>



<p>The most considerable downward impact was recorded in education (-4.4%) and the clothing and footwear index (-2.6%).</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Malta’s annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) was 1.49% in January 2019, the same rate as in the preceding month, according to figures published by the Maltese National Statistics Office (NSO). The twelve-month moving average rate was 1.21%. </strong><br></p>



<p>The largest upward impact on annual inflation was recorded in the food index (up by 0.97 percentage points), chiefly fed by increasing prices of take-aways. The transport and communication index grew by 0.34 percentage points while the housing index was up by 0.19 percentage points, the latter boosted by increasing prices of fuels and maintenance services.<br></p>



<p>The largest downward impact was recorded in the clothing and footwear index (down by 0.27 percentage points), the NSO figures reveal. Household equipment and maintenance cost index was down by 0.13 percentage points.<br></p>
