Electric bike scooter-sharing service IoScoot is celebrating its first anniversary in Malta and has registered more than 400 weekly rentals in the past two months of operations, according to a press statement sent to Business Malta.

IoScoot operates through a pay-per-use platform in Malta and runs on a fully-electric fleet of 70 bikes, stationed between St Julian’s and Valletta, including the University of Malta. IoScoot promises a “flexible, convenient and ecologically-friendly alternative to private transport delivering quick and economical travel while reducing commuters’ carbon footprint,” the press statement says.

The service is integrated into Meep, which is an intermodal mobility mobile application showcasing routes and services matching the preferences of users. IoScoot’s electric bike scooter can be activated on-demand without the need to subscribe. After registering through Meep and uploading their moped driving licence — which is validated in 24 hours — users can book a ride in the designated area in central Malta.

Through the Meep app, holders of a Tallinja Card — personalised travel card issued by the Malta Public Transport chiefly available for the service provider’s bus routes — can also link their account to IoScoot and pay for their rides with the credit on the Tallinja Card, receiving a discount price per minute.

The post IoScoot sees growing demand prior to first anniversary first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
