The Medical Cannabiz World Asia summit is set to take place in June 2020 at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok, organiser SiGMA Group has announced, according to a press statement sent to Business Malta. The Asian cannabis market is expected to be worth US$5.8b by 2024 and Thailand is thought to be among the leaders of change in medical cannabis.

The inaugural show of Medical Cannabiz World will be held in Malta in November 2019. The event in Thailand scheduled for June 2020 aims to bring together the world of medical cannabis production and distribution focussing on the “East and West igniting this new and high-growth sector”.

SiGMA Group has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thailand’s Rangsit University, SiGMA Group hopes will help facilitate its expansion in Asia.

The Asian cannabis market is expected to be worth US$5.8b by 2024 if both medical cannabis and recreational cannabis are legalised across a number of key markets, such as Thailand, China, India, and South Korea, the Asia Cannabis Report published by Prohibition Partners reveal.

The report by Prohibition Partners adds that Thailand, Singapore and China are all pursuing research into the healthcare applications of cannabis. This very same report says that Thailand — together with Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and South Korea — is “at the vanguard of change in the region”.

At the same time, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore are considered to be leading the way in regulation and legislation, although other countries such as Myanmar have softened their approach to drug crime, the report says.

“There is so much opportunity for the medical cannabis sector around the globe at the moment. As SiGMA Group expands operations from Europe to the East with both the SiGMA iGaming conference and the AIBC Summit, it makes sense to exploit the growing sector for medical cannabis businesses in the region,” said Eman Pulis, SiGMA Group founder and CEO.

The post SiGMA adds Thailand to Medical Cannabiz World calendar in 2020 first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Malta-based digital asset exchange OKEx is launching the British pound (GBP) and the Thai baht (THB) as two new currencies available for trade on its over-the-counter (OTC) platform, according to a press statement issued in late-January. OKEx’s OTC is often tagged as a <g class="gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_hide gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins multiReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="4" data-gr-id="4">fiat-to-cryptocurrency</g> platform.

Following the launch, users in the United Kingdom and Thailand can complete KYC verification to become eligible to trade on the platform.

Allowing users to place orders with exchange rates and payment methods pre-selected by themselves to buy or sell Virtual Financial Assets with fiat currencies, OKEx claims users are hence offered access to a low-volatility market and zero transaction fee. Before listing the British pound and the Thai baht, the platform had already been facilitating global digital assets trading with the Vietnamese dong (VND) and Chinese renminbi (CNY) fiat-to-cryptocurrency markets. In the future, the platform expects to add more currencies to its listings. The Thai baht (THB) and British pound (GBP) OTC trading markets currently support bitcoin (BTC), tether (USDT), ether (ETH), and litecoin (LTC).

“Our mission is simple at OKEx. We aim to offer flexibility and convenience to our traders,” says Andy Cheung, Head of Operations at OKEx. “Thailand and the UK own the fastest-growing crypto communities in the world. We see great potential in these two markets and want to support the needs there. Because of the increasing trading volume and the number of traders in these two countries, we decided to launch the new THB and GBP trading services on our OTC trading platform. Wherever the market potential locates, we will expand there. In 2019, you can expect more currencies to be supported on OKEx,” the head adds.

The post OKEx lists pound sterling and baht on trading platform first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
