72 proposals for projects submitted to Project Green, Environment Minister says

The Minister for Environment, Energy, and Enterprise Miriam Dalli told Parliament on Tuesday that 72 proposals for environmental projects had been submitted to the agency Project Green and were awaiting approval.

The government is to invest a record €700 million towards environmental projects through the new agency launched earlier this year over the next seven years.  The investment was their flagship electoral promise in the run-up to the 2022 general election.

Dalli was responding to a question put forth by the PN MP Graziella Galea.

Dalli went on to break the origin of the proposals down: 58 applications were submitted by local councils, 4 by environmental NGOs, and 10 by other entities including sports clubs, local band clubs, schools, and other volunteer organisations.

The Minister said that the submitted applications are “currently being processed and evaluated according to the guidelines established and published on the Project Green website.”

“More details about these applications will be published after the termination of evaluation process,” she said.

Project Green was launched last January, with the agency being entrusted with spearheading the government’s promised environmental investment.

The agency’s CEO Steve Ellul had said at launch that the agency will work on making existing green spaces more accessible, while creating many new ones, for cleaner air quality, lower noise pollution and greener landscapes in all localities.
