The Chamber of Engineers has undergone a renewal process which changed the executive council significantly following the Annual General Meeting of the organisation, held virtually for the very first time on 26 February.
The AGM witnessed the departure of the Dr. Inġ. Daniel Micallef following a two-year tenure as President and welcomed the entrance of new engineers bringing a spectrum of youth, energy, experience and fresh ideas.
Following the first Executive Council Meeting of the term, Inġ. Malcolm Zammit was unanimously endorsed as President. He acceded to this new role following his appointment as Secretary General in 2019. In his first address to the newly appointed Executive Council, Inġinier Zammit stated that this new Council hones the necessary talent and energy to deliver a new chapter for the representation of engineers, by consolidating the organisation’s inks with members, improving the Chamber’s sustainability and promoting the attractiveness and recognition of the profession.
At the same meeting, Inġ. Robert Busuttil was elected Vice-President and Inġ. Bonnie Attard was elected Secretary General. Long-serving member Inġ. Johan Psaila was entrusted with the role of Treasurer whilst the newly onboarded Ms. Denise Baldacchino was given the Public Relations Officer role. Inġ. Michelle Cortis continues in her entrusted role as International Affairs Secretary while Inġ. David Scicluna Giusti and Mr. Alex Tanti were respectively confirmed with the roles of Activities Secretary and Funding Secretary. Inġ. Christian Spiteri and Ms. Claire Grima, who are both new members on the Chamber’s council, were respectively assigned the portfolio of Membership Secretary and Education and Training Secretary. Furthermore, the council has been complemented with the nomination of engineering student Mr. Jeremy Farrugia as Student Member.
This team proposes itself as being more representative of the demographics of the profession in society and looks forward to embracing values of honesty, integrity and reliability to further the engineering profession in Malta.
