The National Coordinating Committee on Combating Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism (NCC) has sponsored a Chair in Forensic Accounting at the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta.
As a result of the agreement signed on 30 July, a study unit in this specialised accounting area will be run for the first time in the next October / February Semester as an elective in the final year of the professional Master in Accountancy and research in the area will also be enhanced. The unit will be led by Prof. Steven Toms of the University of Leeds.
This sponsorship, will be of an opportunity to the Department of Accountancy to welcome on board a number of international professors, who are specialised in this field.
The course will be called “Forensic Accounting” and will be operated by the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.
Present at the signing were the University’s Rector – Prof. Alfred J. Vella, NCC Chairperson – Mr Alfred Camilleri, Accountancy Associate Professor at FEMA – Prof. Peter J. Baldacchino, and Dean at FEMA – Prof. Frank Bezzina, who all praised such an initiative between the two parties.
