APS Bank and Malta Development Bank renew partnership for SME financing

APS Bank and the Malta Development Bank (MDB) have extended their collaboration on two flagship financing schemes designed to support SMEs: the SME Guarantee Scheme (SGS) and the Guaranteed Co-Lending Scheme (GCLS). This partnership, renewed until the end of 2027, underscores both organisations’ commitment to empowering businesses with accessible financial solutions.

The updated terms bring key enhancements, including an increase in the maximum loan size under the SGS from €750,000 to €1,000,000, aligning with revised state aid thresholds. For GCLS, businesses can now access loans ranging from €1,000,001 to €10,000,000, maintaining the schemes’ flexibility to cater to diverse business needs.

In addition, APS Bank will soon streamline the approval process for SGS loans up to €150,000, ensuring faster access for businesses. Plans are also in progress to introduce specialised sub-schemes supporting sustainability and cultural or creative initiatives.

Zoltan Horvath, Head of Propositions at APS Bank, stated: “These renewed schemes reflect our shared vision with MDB to strengthen the backbone of Malta’s economy — its SMEs. We aim to make financing more accessible, fostering innovation, growth, and resilience within our business community.”
