Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg and Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri launched a new public transport route named X300, which will connect the Ċirkewwa Terminal with the University and Mater Dei Hospital, G.F. Abela Junior College and Valletta.
Minister Ian Borg said, “Our government’s commitment always remains to tangible improvement in the quality of life of people. Step by step, we are constantly improving connections and transport services for those who cross between the islands daily. This service will lead to more accessible mobility, especially for Gozitan students headed towards University and Junior College and Gozitan workers who can now go to Mater Dei or Valletta and catch a bus to their place of work from these terminals. We are speaking about more than 1,100 students and almost 4,000 workers. We will continue investing in more services by sea while preparing plans for a permanent link. In the meantime, we are investing more to use existing infrastructure more efficiently.”
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said that this is an important step to reduce delays for Gozitans getting to their place of work or educational institution. He added that, “through the X300, we will solve part of the connectivity problem for Gozitans.” He stressed that together with Minister Ian Borg, they will continue working to improve connectivity, both through fast ferries, as well as through the Malta-Gozo Tunnel project.
The schedule for this new route will be synchronised with the Gozo Channel ferry schedule, and will operate only at the Ċirkewwa, Skate Park (Mater Dei Hospital and University), Kulleġġ (Junior College students) and Valletta Terminus stops, so users can travel from one end of the route to the other in around 60 minutes. The route will start operating from Monday to Friday from 6.00 am to 6.45pm from October 2020, with four dedicated 12-metre vehicles introduced to the service in 2020, which include free Wi-Fi and USB Charging Ports.
