Prime Minister Robert Abela said Tuesday that Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Climate Change Authority.
In a Facebook post, Abela said that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of this generation, and that its effects are significant.
“We need focused efforts to ensure that Malta, even as a small country, continues to play its part,” Abela said.
He said that Cabinet also approved environmental schemes for Maltese businesses.
Abela said that in the coming days, government will be explaining and providing more details, and will continue to implement environmental priorities.
Energy Minister Miriam Dalli had announced last July that a Climate Change Authority would be set up, which will monitor the impact of climate change and implement actions to curb its effects.
The Authority was promised after a series of power cuts occurring during a heatwave, affecting many localities around the island.
