The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) has hosted the ITS Career Expo at its campus in Luqa.
This expo has been organised by ITS in previous years, offering valuable experience for current students, and bringing them closer to the leading employers in several tourism and hospitality sectors. Students had the opportunity to network with leading companies within the industry, explore potential career paths, and secure their internships.
As part of the event, ITS welcomed several alumni for a panel discussion, where they shared their experiences, career journeys, and insights with secondary school students attending the expo. This provided students with a deeper understanding of the diverse career opportunities available through an education at ITS.
ITS CEO Pierre Fenech emphasised that the Career Expo is designed to bridge the gap between students and the industry, helping them commence their career progression. He says that students are encouraged to participate from their early years at ITS, allowing them to explore various opportunities within the industry and secure valuable career opportunities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, also attended the event and met with the students present, as well as the participating businesses. “The principal contributor to the success of the Maltese tourism industry in recent years is the commitment, skill and hospitality of our workforce. In our efforts to augment the quality of our visitor experience and to increase the sustainability of the tourism industry in the coming years, we need to continue attracting the best talent, while investing in the education of our current and future workforce. By helping students engage with key industry players, the ITS Career Expo is helping these students better understand the needs of the industry, while acquiring invaluable contacts and encouragement to succeed in their careers,” Dr Borg said, as he commended the ITS for this initiative.
This event successfully fostered connections between students and industry professionals, further bridging the gap between education and employment.
