Career opportunities in engineering and technical fields

Enemalta is striving to encourage more girls to pursue careers in electrical and technical engineering, in a bid to address the low number of women engineers and technicians.

During a visit by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli at Enemalta, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Enemalta CEO Jason Vella said the company was committed to attract more women to the sector. Minister Dalli had the opportunity to meet with the engineers who have strategic responsibilities at Enemalta.

Expressing their satisfaction at having embarked on a career in engineering, Engineers Gaynor Azzopardi, Daniela Camilleri and Analizia Balzan spoke of their various responsibilities in various crucial sections of Enemalta, such as carrying out studies that are required before developing solar farms and the dispatch of the company’s resources. 

Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised the importance of girls pursuing STEM careers and other careers that offer innovative employment opportunities. She alsp praised Enemalta’s outreach initiatives to encourage more girls to pursue such careers, particularly through an initiative that Enemalta has embarked upon together with education authorities.

The course sees secondary level students visiting the Delimara generation plant and the Distribution Center in St Andrews. Following the visit, students are then asked to answer a series of questions related to the visit, through a booklet which has been prepared by Enemalta together with education officers.
