GO plc celebrates 50 years of impact with strong 2024 performance

GO plc today held its Annual General Meeting, marking a significant milestone: 50 years of service to Malta as the country’s longest-standing communications provider. The meeting celebrated GO’s continued transformation into a digital and sustainability leader, while reaffirming the company’s commitment to shareholder value and national progress.

Reflecting on 2024, GO announced record revenues of €244.9 million, up 3.8% year-on-year, and a stable net profit of €15.7 million. The Company registered solid customer growth in 2024, enabling it to reclaim its position as Malta’s leading broadband provider and further strengthen its reputation as the country’s fastest-growing mobile network.

“GO’s story is the story of Malta. From voice to fibre, mobile, cloud and green energy, we are proud to have evolved into a catalyst for a digital, sustainable Malta,” said Nikhil Patil, Chief Executive Officer of GO plc. “And as we enter our next 50 years, our mission remains clear: to drive a digital Malta where no one is left behind.”

The AGM also highlighted GO’s strategic transformation. GO has nearly completed its nationwide True Fibre rollout and moved into its new net-zero campus in Żejtun—reinforcing the company’s environmental commitments. Investments in subsidiaries such as Cablenet, BMIT Technologies, AQS Med, Cybersift, and Klikk continued to bear fruit, expanding GO’s role in the broader digital and energy ecosystem.

“We’re not just laying cables or building networks. We’re delivering inclusion, opportunity, and a greener future,” added Patil. “From energy-efficient solutions with GO ENERGI to digital services that reach beyond connectivity, we’re unlocking more value from every digital euro our customers spend.”

Reuben Attard, GO’s Chief Finance and Chief People Officer, presented the Group’s financial performance. Operating costs increased in line with revenue growth, reflecting strong customer activity and investments. Return on equity stood at a robust 16.9%, placing GO among Malta’s top-performing listed companies.

“GO’s disciplined approach to investment, cost control and innovation continues to deliver long-term shareholder value,” Attard stated. “We generated €64 million in operational cash flow and returned €28 million to shareholders. This year’s dividend of €0.28 per share brings our seven-year return total to €154 million—more than half our current market capitalisation.”

GO’s future outlook includes expanding its role in Malta’s digital economy by growing its share of what it calls the “Digital Spend”—the total consumer investment in connectivity, digital services, and energy.

“With our strong brand, deep market presence, and talented team, we are ideally placed to become the trusted partner in every part of our customers’ digital lives,” said Patil.

The AGM reaffirmed GO’s long-term strategy: strengthening its core telecoms business while expanding into adjacent digital and green sectors. With a healthy capital structure and a clear vision, GO remains firmly on track to continue driving innovation, delivering shareholder returns, and creating meaningful impact for the next 50 years and beyond.

The post GO announces record revenues of €244.9 million, and net profit of €15.7 million first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Driving a Digital Malta where no one is left behind. A Purpose that’s as Sustainable as it is Innovative

GO is proud to announce the inauguration of its state‐of‐the‐art Net Zero Offices in Zejtun —a €20 million investment that sets a new benchmark in sustainable, digitally enabled workspaces. Designed to power a green future and drive forward the nation’s digital transformation, the new Head Office epitomises GO’s commitment to leaving no one behind in Malta’s journey towards a greener tomorrow.

Emphasising the importance of collaborative action in driving Malta’s green future, Minister Dr Miriam Dalli remarked: “Governments’ commitment to sustainability is not just about reducing emissions—it’s about investing in our future. We stand ready to support and encourage initiatives like GO’s new green headquarters, ensuring that private sector innovation and public policy work in harmony to create a cleaner, more prosperous Malta for generations to come.”

Her words echo the sentiment of GO’s leadership and the collective responsibility to innovate for a better, more sustainable Malta.

“We have only one planet. One home. And it’s on us, all of us, to take care of it. At GO, our purpose is simple: “Driving a Digital Malta where no one is left behind.” But that mission comes with a responsibility — to ensure the digital future we’re building is also a sustainable one. At GO, we believe that we have a big part to play in helping Malta “Go Green”,” said Nikhil Patil, CEO at GO.

“We’ve invested over €100 million to give every home and business in Malta access to True Fibre—making us one of the first countries in Europe to do so. This allows us to pull back our historic copper network. We are also shutting down legacy 3G and DTTV networks and rolled out energy-smart 5G powered by AI. These investments not only future proof Malta with the latest digital infrastructure, but also enable GO to drastically reduce it’s carbon emissions,’ he continued.

A Blueprint for Sustainability and Innovation

“Our Zejtun campus is more than just a workplace—it’s a symbol of our vision for a sustainable future,” said Nikhil. “With over 3,000 solar panels harnessing clean energy, we’re not just powering our operations—we’re generating enough electricity to support 420 homes each year. That’s real impact.”

Nikhil emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation: “From smart energy management installed by our own subsidiary SENS, to advanced water recycling, every detail of our campus is designed for efficiency and sustainability. Our cutting-edge systems don’t just reduce costs—they redefine how businesses can operate responsibly.”

“But sustainability isn’t just about technology; it’s about choices,” Nikhil continued. “By converting nearly half our fleet to electric and embracing flexible work policies, we’re cutting emissions in meaningful ways.”

“This is just the beginning,” Nikhil concluded. “Our mission is clear—to lead by example, to inspire change, and to build a future where business and sustainability go hand in hand.

A Hub for Digital Transformation and Community Engagement

The campus is not only a physical space but a symbol of GO’s broader strategy to “Reduce. Replace. Reinvent.” In fact, GO’s commitment to climate action has entered a new phase with the recent launch of GO ENERGI, a new product designed to help make sustainable energy solutions more accessible to everyone and effectively putting a more concrete footing into the energy sector. This initiative aims to bring renewable, fixed-price electricity directly to homes and businesses, reaffirming GO’s role in helping Malta “Go Green.”

Looking Ahead

GO’s journey does not stop here. It has signed up to science-based targets, aiming for a 42% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and 90% by 2050. By leveraging its subsidiary companies and driving climate action across its broad subscriber base, GO is paving the way for a digital future that is as sustainable as it is inclusive.

Epic continues to stand at the top of telecommunications in Malta, with Ookla®, a global leader in connectivity intelligence and network insights, naming Epic the Fastest Mobile Network in Malta for Q3–Q4 2024.

To determine this award, Ookla analysed consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest® using modern devices across all major operators in the country. The results of the analysis by Ookla confirm that Epic achieved the fastest overall mobile speeds in Malta during this period, and further highlight Epic’s commitment to providing consumers with an epic communication experience through innovative solutions, continuous evolution, and a dedication to excellence.

Epic CEO Pierre Etienne Cizeron said “We are immensely proud to be named the Fastest and Best Mobile Network in Malta by Ookla, a global authority in network performance analysis. These accolades confirm the technological excellence and quality of our networks and reinforce Epic’s position as a leader in telecommunications in Malta,” he stated.

“Our investments in Malta’s telecommunications infrastructure reflect our long-term strategic vision to support the country’s growth. We remain committed to upgrading and innovating to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” he continued. “These awards are a testament to the trust our customers place in us and the dedication of our incredible team, whose hard work and commitment have propelled Epic to the top once again.”

“After conducting an in-depth analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest, Epic has been named the Fastest and Best Mobile Network in Malta by Ookla’s Speedtest Awards,” said Stephen Bye, President and CEO of Ookla, a division of Ziff Davis. “This prestigious award is given to mobile network operators that demonstrate exceptional speed and performance in comparison to other major mobile networks in their market for Q3-Q4 2024. We are thrilled to acknowledge Epic for this achievement, which is the result of their unwavering focus on delivering a superior network experience to their customers.”

The Speedtest Awards for top providers in speed are determined using a Speed Score™ that incorporates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network speed performance. Tests used to calculate the Speed Score exclusively come from “modern devices,” which are devices capable of connecting to the market’s fastest generally available technology. Epic’s Speed Score during the award period was 128.33.

With these prestigious awards, Epic reinforces its position as the leading telecommunications provider in Malta, continuing to set new benchmarks in network performance and customer experience and satisfaction.

The post Epic Malta awarded as country’s Fastest and Best Mobile Network by Ookla® first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

This reduction allows Melita customers to enjoy some of the lowest roaming rates available in 60 non-EU countries.
In addition, Melita customers visiting Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, or Morocco before 31 December will receive a 50% discount on data roaming, paying just 5 cents per megabyte—bringing these destinations in line with Melita’s most affordable roaming rates.

These new rates also cover voice calls, with charges for both local calls within the visited country and calls back to Malta now reduced to just €0.50 per minute, down from previous rates of up to €3.39 per minute.

Kevin Borg, CCO at Melita said, “As more people opt to travel outside of Europe for leisure and business, Melita is working hard to make it easier to stay in touch with loved ones and colleagues back in Malta. Our new roaming rates have made calls and data significantly cheaper in a further 25 countries across Africa, the Middle East and Caribbean. Whether you’re in Senegal, Saudi Arabia or Saint Kitts & Nevis, staying connected has become much more affordable.”

“Two years ago we had a dream of bringing our stories, our culture and our love for Maltese drama to life. From that dream, TOKIS was born and it’s been an incredible journey. Not only for us but for the thousands of customers who love Maltese content,” said Nikhil Patil, CEO at GO plc.

“Today TOKIS is one of the most viewed channels in Malta with over 5 million views monthly. It has grown considerably and will be viewed and enjoyed by thousands across 3 continents as the GO TV app will become available to Maltese expats worldwide,” he continued.

TOKIS immediately started garnering a lot of success because local audiences continued to show a solid affinity for homegrown content and growing appreciation towards local talent and the Maltese language. It has progressed from drama to discussion shows and promises a broader spectrum of content over the coming years.

“We are continuously looking at ways of improving our customers’ experience. Our customers love Maltese content, and we are giving them more of what they enjoy. We also recognised the financial and other resource constraints the industry was facing, limiting the number of dramas that could be produced yearly. We have the technology, the resources, and the demand, so we knew that content had to be the next step in our customer’s experience,” added Nikhil Patil.

“We are very excited for what’s coming next,” he concluded.

The post GO to invest a further €5 million to support Maltese film producers first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

GO capitalizing carbon neutrality for business growth

GO recently announced the strategic acquisition of 51% shareholding in AQS Med Ltd, a market leader in Malta’s renewable energy market with some of the largest installations on the island. “GO is reconfirming its resolve to not only be a leading player in the renewable energy sector but to play key role in making Malta green,” says NIKHIL PATIL, GO’s Chief Executive Officer

“Climate action is a subject widely tackled in boardrooms across the globe and one which I am particularly passionate about because the best legacy any company can leave is a world that is in better shape than when it started operating,” states Mr Patil

This culture was brought to GO by Mr Patil as soon as he was appointed CEO back in 2018 by challenging the management to take carbon neutrality to a higher business level.

“Six years down the line, at GO, we are now capitalizing carbon neutrality as part of our business growth strategy, but more importantly, bringing more positive impact on the community and the environment.”

The past few years saw GO become a veritable innovator of telecommunications, technology, and digital infrastructure, pushing boundaries in connectivity, introducing cutting-edge solutions, and reshaping the digital communication landscape.

“Our purpose is to drive a digital Malta where no one is left behind. But in the face of the climate challenges that we are all experiencing, we must ensure that our purpose is fulfilled through more sustainable operations. This realisation was the start of our journey to become a more sustainable company.”

“In terms of sustainability, our ambition goes beyond making GO green. We want to leverage our investments in technologies and our experience to help our clients achieve their sustainability targets. Of course, climate action is not just about reducing carbon footprint but also about every single business and personal decision we take, from the suppliers we select to the clothes and food we consume,” he continued.

GO’s first big step

“Our collective learning journey started internally by focusing on the mindset of our people to think green. Through our GO Academy, we hosted everyone at GO, even our Board Members to training programmes and initiatives on what everyone can do in their personal lives, as well as at work to bring change.”

“Through GO Green, our employees and stakeholders today also know that our national True Fibre project across the Maltese islands, of which over 85% is now complete, is also another green step forward as it is replacing the previous legacy copper network.”

“They also understand how our 5G network technology transfers data in a more energy-efficient manner and that by being a remote-first company allowing most of its workforce to work in hybrid mode, GO is contributing to less pollution through substantial reductions in everyday commuting.”

Science-based targets

GO’s ambitious targets project a decrease in the carbon footprint of 42% by 2030 and a further decrease of 90% by 2050, in line with the reductions required by the Paris Agreement.

“Our commitment to these targets is an ambitious one but individual action remains important as much as corporate action. Educating and informing our people is central to our approach,” added Nikhil.

A shift in investment strategy

GO recognised that to expedite its learning curve and increase its positive impact on the environment is by partnering with expert and experienced companies which are already making headwinds in the field of sustainability.

The first major step in this direction was an initial €1 million investment to acquire a majority shareholding in Sens Innovation Group Limited (SENS), an energy management company that serves large hotels and commercial clients in Malta, Europe, UK, the Seychelles, Mauritius, London and Dubai.

“SENS was already serving large hotels and commercial clients in Malta, Europe and the UK with the design and build of customised solutions for clients to improve their business operations and efficiencies. We realised that by being part of these solutions, GO too could contribute to the environmental responsibilities demanded by modern governance and legislation.”

“What was more exciting was that this first-of-its-kind acquisition bridged IoT technology and environmental sustainability – two areas that GO is very passionate about. By combining our technology innovation with SENS’s experience in IoT and green tech, we can realise our sustainability ambitions and help our customers do the same more easily.”

GO’s New Zero-Carbon Head Office

GO is now applying SENS’ solutions within the building of its new upcoming Head Office in Żejtun. Nikhil Patil described GO’s new €20 million zero-carbon headquarters as the company’s most ambitious initiative.

“It is pointless not practising what one preaches. What SENS is capable of delivering to hotels and commercial premises can equally be delivered at GO. And now we are making sure that GO’s new home will be one of the leading sustainable buildings on the island and an intrinsic part of our legacy towards a cleaner way of operating.”

GO’s new head Office will be fully equipped with energy-saving lighting, motion sensors, the use of secondary water stored in purposely built on-site reservoirs and photovoltaics to generate as much renewable energy as possible.

It so happened that this project also introduced GO to AQS Med Ltd in which earlier this year, GO acquired 51% shareholding, making the company GO’s latest investment in renewable energy.

“GO’s acquisition of AQS Med is an opportunity for the Group to grow in the energy vertical, allows us to leverage mutual strengths and networks to bring more value to our shareholders and customers and also supports our efforts towards helping Malta achieve its environmental targets,” adds Mr Patil.

“Most importantly, with the strength of the GO brand, we are building the clout to convince those, who as yet, might still be unconvinced,” concluded Nikhil Patil.

The post ‘We’re building the clout to convince the unconvinced’ – GO’s Chief Executive Officer first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Epic is proud to announce significant enhancements to its retail network across Malta and Gozo, highlighting the operator’s continuous commitment to improving customer connectivity and service. These strategic improvements include the relocation of the Sliema store, the refurbishment of the St. Julian’s branch, the Samsung dedicated Home Entertainment space in the flagship shop in Birkirkara, new mobile presence in Marsascala and the imminent opening of a new outlet at Shoreline. All this will further increase the operator’s physical footprint and reach to 17 locations, confirming Epic as the operator with the biggest network of outlets.

“Following the positive outcomes highlighted in the recent MCA report, which affirmed our leadership and customer satisfaction in the telecommunications sector, we are motivated more than ever to enhance our service touchpoints. Our store updates in Marsascala, Sliema, St. Julian’s, and the soon-to-open Shoreline outlet further reinforce our commitment to offer the best network, the best customer care and more direct communication with our customers. We want to not just meet, but exceed our customers’ expectations in every interaction they have with Epic,” Suzanne Spiteri, Epic’s Chief Commercial Officer.

The new central location of the Sliema and Marsascala stores, the modernized space in St. Julian’s, and the anticipation surrounding the Shoreline branch opening, are all steps towards providing a more accessible and engaging customer experience. Each store is designed to be a hub where customers can explore Epic’s offerings, seek personalized advice, and enjoy the high-quality service that aligns with the standards Epic’s clients have grown accustomed to.

This expansion of its store network also gives Epic’s successful Trade-In program another boost, offering customers a convenient and eco-friendly way to trade in their old mobile phones at any of its soon-to-be 17 locations. This initiative aligns perfectly with Epic’s vision of promoting sustainability and circular practices, providing an additional avenue for customers to engage while contributing to a greener future. By increasing the number of its outlets, Epic is not only enhancing accessibility but also offering more opportunities for customers to participate in this valuable program and earn cash from their old devices. Customers are invited to visit Epic’s newly revamped stores and experience the upgraded level of service that reflects its dedication to connecting with and serving the community. At Epic, it is more than just a provider; it is a partner in their daily communications, committed to enriching their experiences with every interaction.

The post Epic continues to get closer to customers with strategic store refurbishments and expansions first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
