Total guests in collective accommodation establishments were up by year-on-year 8.4% to almost two million in 2018according to the latest figures published by the Maltese National Statistics Office (NSO).
During 2018, total nights spent were up by year-on-year 5.6% exceeding 10.1 million, while the net use of bed-places grew by 2.0 percentage points to 67.6%, NSO says in its latest report.
In Q4 2018, total guests in collective accommodation establishments numbered 449,749. During the last quarter of the year, total nights spent amounted to almost 2.2 million. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for nearly 1.1 million nights, or 49.6%, according to NSI figures.
The average length of stay, however, shortened to 4.8 nights during the last quarter of 2018 from the average of 5.0 nights registered in the corresponding period a year earlier. The net use of bed-place also dropped by 1.1 percentage points to 57.1% as compared to Q4 2017.
