A Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) was carried out with different designs in order to determine the best model that can be adopted regarding the roofing of the regional road tunnels in Santa Venera, Environment and Energy Minister Miriam Dalli said as she replied to a question posed by Nationalist Party MP Darren Carabott.

Carabott asked the Minister for details regarding what has been done throughout the last year regarding the roofing of the Santa Venera regional road tunnels.

Dalli stated that the CBA was also carried out to determine how the project would be feasible with the possibility that it could also be done between the government and the private sector. She continued that it is the government’s aim “to give people open space with the best use” and is therefore considering what the involvement of private investors could be if there are facilities below the level of the garden for use by families.

The Minister said that the expertise of a tunnel engineering expert is required as the road where this project is to be carried out is a main artery that forms part of the Ten-T Network and the design involves a tunnel.

She added that other factors which must be taken into account when it comes to planning and carrying out this project include the impact on traffic, in part because there will also be ongoing works on the Msida Creek project in the area.
