Courtesy call on Mrs Miriam Vella, Hospice Malta Patron by new Hospice Malta Chairperson and CEO

The President’s wife, Mrs Miriam Vella, Hospice Malta Patron, welcomed the recently appointed Hospice Chairperson Ms. Bernadette Bonnici Kind and Hospice CEO Mr. Kenneth Delia, at the President’s official residence in San Anton. They were accompanied by a number of Hospice Malta council members.

The meeting was held to formally introduce a number of council administrators in their new roles, as well as to discuss the upcoming Hospice Malta AGM on the 20^th of July.

The informal meeting also provided the necessary platform to provide Mrs Vella with an update on the St Michael Hospice project, a major refurbishment of former Cini Institute that was donated to Hospice Malta by the Archdiocese of Malta last year. The project will transform the property into a new palliative care complex for Hospice patients.

In addition, the difficulties brought to light by social distancing and preventive measures during the COVID-19 pandemic were also touched upon, in particular for Hospice Malta patients and their families.

Mrs. Vella commented that patients and their families need our help and prayers, and that unfortunately the number of people requiring Hospice assistance is growing. Mrs. Bonnici Kind also commented that helping the sick is an absolute necessity and not something we can do without. She added that “Hospice is encouraged by the positive response received by local banks and corporations who share the same vision of the necessity of palliative care by offering financial support”. She believes in the motto that every little bit helps and encouraged everyone to make a contribution, however small, to Hospice Malta through its website or other channels.

The meeting came to a close with the Hospice Malta Council Members thanking Mrs Vella for her generosity in offering San Anton Palace as the venue for the Hospice Malta AGM and for her work and support to the Malta Hospice Movement. The council also expressed their gratitude for support from the Ministry for the Family, Children’s Rights and Social Solidarity as well as the Ministry for Health with whom they are currently in discussions.
