Former PL MP Deborah Schembri will lead the Malta Developers Association after being appointed its Director General with immediate effect, the association said in a statement.
Schembri, who rose to prominence as one of the people behind the pro-divorce movement a decade ago, replaces former PN MP Marthese Portelli, who left the role after a year to take up a similar role with the Chamber of Commerce.
Schembri was Parliamentary Secretary responsible for planning and the simplification of administrative processes and was legal counsel to the Planning Authority – a role which the MDA said she has now relinquished.
The MDA described her as a “target-oriented person, known for her excellent communicative skills and calm demeanour.”
“The MDA is confident that Dr. Schembri enjoys the trust of both its members and the general public and has full faith in her capability to lead the much needed reforms within the industry during these challenging times”, the association said.
