WAIFC to hold Extraordinary General Meeting in Malta
Dr Bernice Buttigieg, Chief Strategy Officer of FinanceMalta, has been appointed to the Board of the World Alliance of International Financial Centers (WAIFC) during the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan.
This prestigious appointment further elevates Malta’s standing in the global financial sector, reflecting the country’s increasing influence and reputation in this industry and active participation on the international stage. Dr Buttigieg’s new role strengthens Malta’s position within this global organisation, opening doors for further cooperation and innovation in international finance.
Among the key decisions taken during the AGM, the Alliance chose Malta to hold its Extraordinary General Meeting due in Spring 2026 in Malta, a decision which reflects the trust Malta has achieved among its peers, and which will go a long way in enhancing Malta’s place on the financial services map.
The WAIFC brings together a host of leading reputable financial centres worldwide, promoting the exchange of best practices and encouraging open dialogue to further the understanding of the importance of international financial centres for national and international economies as well as social development. FinanceMalta has been a member of the WAIFC since 2022.
This year’s WAIFC AGM was addressed by distinguished guests including Mr Nakaso, Chairman of FinCity.Tokyo and Mr Yoshida, from JPX. A meeting with representatives of the Sapporo Financial Centre was also held in the margins of the event.
