€3 million Marsalforn waterfront project inaugurated

The newly-completed €3 million Marsalforn waterfront project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Abela together Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri on Wednesday.

This followed works conducted in the Menqa area. The deteriorated pier in Menqa has been rebuilt to provide better service to the fishermen in the area.

Prime Minister Abela described the project as one that provides enjoyment for the many Gozitans, Maltese and tourists who visit the area.

Abela also pointed out the government’s commitment to creating more jobs in Gozo and the importance of strengthening the economy. He also spoke about the future of Gozo and the government’s commitment to turn the challenges on the island into opportunities.

He encouraged the public to participate in the consultation on the strategy for Gozo.

Minister Camilleri remarked that “we have promised to work tirelessly throughout the winter to rebuild this waterfront and enjoy it in Summer. We delievered on our promises. This project will not only raise the level of tourism in Gozo, but will also continue to placing this island on the tourist map.”

Camilleri said that an application has been submitted to the Planning Authority (PA) for the building of a new breakwater.

From an infrastructural point of view, the Marsalforn waterfront has seen a profound change and extensive beautification. A service culverts system has also been installed and water and sewage services have been changed.

Urban planning was carried out around the entire waterfront and surrounding areas as well as landscaping through all the main roads: Triq il-Port, Triq il-Forn, Triq San Ġużepp, Triq ir-Rabat, Sir Michelangelo Refalo Square.
