Elmo Insurance has made a donation towards Hospice Malta’s St Michael Hospice – a new palliative care centre that is being built so that Hospice can continue to cater for the increased demand of its services within the community.
Elmo Insurance Chairman, William Harding, explained that the company has always had, at its core, the community values that inspire giving back to help those most in need. “We were motivated by the St Michael Hospice project, a first for Malta, and felt we had to contribute knowing fully that the number of families who require Hospice support is unfortunately on the increase year on year. As a company, we are looking into how we can continue to support NGO Hospice Malta, and we encourage others to do the same and help in any way they can.”
Hospice Malta provides free of charge palliative care services across Malta and Gozo to patients suffering life limiting conditions due to serious illness, as well as support to the patients’ families.
The new building, St Michael Hospice, will become the main premises for Hospice Malta and is expected to help further enhance the already established palliative community services provided by Hospice since 1989. It will also house an In-Patient palliative care unit for an extensive, multidisciplinary approach.
The present-day therapy services will be expanded, and several Out-Patient clinics will also be introduced. St Michael Hospice will also enhance its educational wing which will open many opportunities to exchange expertise with other Hospices across Europe and beyond.
Hospice Malta can offer its crucial support through the help of volunteers and donations. In the last year, it has provided palliative care to approximately 1,300 families whilst providing a supportive environment where both patients and their loved ones can feel safe.
