In March 2024, registered full-time employment increased by 6.2 per cent, while part-time employment as a primary job increased by 4.8 per cent when compared to March 2023, the NSO said Thursday.
Administrative data provided by Jobsplus show that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) increased by 6.3 per cent, reaching 286,376. This was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the full-time registered employment (16,764) and an increase in registered unemployment (131).
Registered full-time employment
During March 2024, Administrative and support service activities and Accommodation and food service activities contributed mostly to the increase in full-time employment, when compared to March 2023. Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 15,895 persons to 233,375. Public sector full-time employment increased by 869 persons to 51,857.
The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 784 when compared to March 2023, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 15,980. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 6.2 per cent and 6.3 per cent, respectively over 2023 levels.
Registered part-time employment
Registered part-time employment in March 2024 increased by 7.0 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2023. The sectors that contributed mostly to the overall increase were Professional, scientific and technical activities followed by Administrative and support service activities.
The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 42,520 up by 8.9 per cent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2023. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 34,090 up by 4.8 per cent when compared to the same month in 2023.
