The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Professor Edward Scicluna was a panel discussant at the Eurofi High Level Seminar 2022 held in Paris between the 23 and the 25 of February 2022. The subject of the morning session held on the 25th was on ‘The optimal policy to manage European Union growth and financial stability with over public indebtedness’.
The chairperson of this session was Madam Sylvie Goulard, Deputy Governor of the Banque de France, while Mr Jacque de Larosière, past President of the EBRD and Managing Director of the IMF, together with Mr Lucio Pench, Director for Fiscal Policy in the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission and Professor Claudia M. Buch Vice-President of the Deutsche Bundesbank were the other speakers.
Eurofi is a leading European think-tank dedicated to financial services. It was created in 2000 with the aim of contributing to the strengthening and integration of European financial markets.
On 25 February 2022, as part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bruno Le Maire, Minister for the Economy, Finance and the Recovery, together with the Governor of the Banque de France hosted a joint informal meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Paris.
The meeting was attended by the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Ministers, the 27 national Central Bank Governors, including Malta’s Governor Professor Scicluna, the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, and European Commissioners Paolo Gentiloni and Mairead McGuinness.
The Governor was also accompanied by Mr Sandro Demarco, Bank Deputy Governor.
