GWU announces industrial action against company over ex-Air Malta employees’ conditions

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has declared industrial action on behalf of former Air Malta employees now working for Resource Support & Services Ltd. (RSSL).

The dispute stems from a failure to resolve ongoing issues regarding employment conditions, benefits, and long-standing obligations.

Central to the GWU’s position is the protection of existing rights, benefits, and entitlements established under current Collective Agreements and personal contracts.

The union, in a statement, insists that all commitments under the VETS Agreement, alongside its associated correspondence, must be fully honoured and fulfilled rather than reduced or dismissed during negotiations.

Additionally, the GWU said it continues to demand a fair resolution regarding unpaid salary arrears dating back to 2023, as well as a proper salary increase mechanism.

Following feedback from an information meeting with affected members, the GWU formally notified RSSL of the industrial action. The Union maintains that this step is necessary to safeguard workers’ rights and ensure existing agreements are respected.

While the GWU said it remains open to meaningful discussions to reach a satisfactory resolution, it stresses that any outcome must offer clear guarantees that existing benefits will be preserved and all outstanding financial and contractual obligations will be met in full.
