HSBC Malta to mark Earth Hour 2021

HSBC Malta will be once again joining other HSBC global sites to mark the annual Earth Hour, and will be switching off lights to show support for our planet at its buildings in Qormi – Operations Centre, Valletta – Head Office and the Swatar UK Contact Centre. Since 2009, HSBC has been a high profile supporter of the Earth Hour movement, organising and supporting a number of such events in conjunction with the many countries around the globe that make up the HSBC Group.

Each year, this activity has a different theme and this year’s theme is “Speaking for Nature”. This year’s theme highlights the fact that humans are responsible for the environment around us, and only we have the power to be the voice for nature and to protect it. Nature is humanity’s greatest and most powerful ally against the negative effects of Climate Change and if humanity does not take care of nature and it fails, so will the ecosystems that we all depend on.

This year’s Earth Hour will take place on Saturday 27 March between 20:30 and 21:30 and thanks to the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Planning local entities such as HSBC Malta, the Auberge de Castille, the Triton Fountain, the Parliament building, several Ministries, Local Councils, gardens and other public buildings will be turning off lights for a full hour.  Malta will be joining the rest of the world in raising awareness on problems related to excessive and unsustainable energy consumption, which bring with them several negative impacts, such as air pollution and wasted resources.
