Malta and Ghana sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation

The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) and the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have a shared goal, that of increased well-being of consumers with the overall aim of improving quality of life in society. 

The MCCAA and the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation.

High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana Jean Claude Galea Mallia was instrumental in laying the foundations for both authorities to identify areas that would benefit from mutual cooperation.

The two authorities aim to create favourable conditions for the cooperation in sectors of mutual interest through sharing of information on major areas of interest, including employee exchange programmes and experts’ training. Focus areas relate to cosmetics, household chemical substances, handling of consumer complaints, organic farming and sustainable use of pesticides.

This MoU will provide a formal framework for cooperation between the two authorities, including a commitment to hold high-level meetings with a view to identify further areas and activities of common interest.

In his remarks, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo earmarked the importance of facilitating bilateral cooperation between Malta and Ghana in areas that are crucial in terms of empowerment and consumer protection.

Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Public Cleansing Deo Debattista said that, with the signing of this MOU on bilateral cooperation, favourable conditions will be created for the cooperation in sectors of mutual interest between the two countries, through sharing of information on various sectors.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Helga Pizzuto, Chairperson for Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority, and Delese Mimi Darko, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Food and Drugs Authority, in the presence of Clayton Bartolo, Minister of Tourism and Consumer Protection, Deo Debattista, Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Public Cleansing, and Mr Amanor Tawiah Daku-Mante, Head of Chancery, Ghana High Commission.
