Malta Public Transport is adding 25 buses to its fleet, the company announced.

The buses, which will enter service in the coming weeks, will extend MPT’s fleet to 510 scheduled public transport vehicles. This is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve public transport services and provide a more comfortable experience for passengers across Malta.

Through the addition of these buses, it will be possible to increase the number of scheduled trips across the route network, adding capacity and improving the overall efficiency of the service. Due to their design, these buses will operate on public transport routes with limited stops, such as routes serving the airport and scheduled trips from Cirkewwa Ferry terminal, which will be be synchronised with the Gozo ferry. Specific details regarding the improvement of the route network, including the enhancement of certain routes and introduction of other new connections, will be announced in the near future, MPT said.

The 25 buses are specifically designed to enhance passenger comfort, offering increased seating capacity and limited standing space. Each bus is equipped with two doors to facilitate efficient boarding and alighting, and features full accessibility for wheelchair users.

In line with the rest of the fleet, the 25 buses will offer free Wi-Fi to passengers, providing connectivity throughout their journey. They also come equipped with USB charging points, allowing passengers to charge their devices during their trip. The buses also feature dedicated storage space for small hand luggage within the passenger area, as well as a luggage compartment for larger items. The vehicles are equipped with Euro VI engines, which represent the cleanest diesel technology available on the market.

“This investment demonstrates Malta Public Transport’s commitment to improving customer experience, as we have added 85 buses to our fleet in Malta over the past twelve months,” said Felipe Cosmen, Chairman of Malta Public Transport. “Our group of companies operates similar buses in its public transport services in Cyprus, where they have received positive feedback from passengers for their comfort and design.”

Malta Public Transport said it remains committed to enhancing the quality of the bus service in Malta, and this investment follows another investment in 30 new buses launched earlier this year, and the investment in another 30 new electric buses last year.  The company’s continuous investment in the country’s public transport is a clear sign of its commitment to provide a reliable and accessible bus service for all passengers, the company said.
