Malta Public Transport has announced the replacement of 100 buses in its fleet with new buses. This significant €28 million investment goes beyond the concession agreement requirements, and reflects the company’s commitment to delivering a cleaner, safer and more comfortable public transport system for the Maltese Islands.

Felipe Cosmen, Chairman of Malta Public Transport said: “As we mark ten years of service in Malta, this investment reflects our long-term vision to modernise public transport and lead the way in sustainable mobility. Over the years, we have invested more than €120 million in our fleet, a clear sign of our ongoing commitment to modernising the fleet, reducing our environmental impact, and improving the quality for those who rely on our services.”

The new buses present a major upgrade not solely in environmental terms but also in terms of advanced safety and comfort features. They are equipped with modern camera systems that replace traditional mirrors, offering better visibility for drivers and enhancing overall safety on the road. In addition, the vehicles offer new accident prevention technology such as pedestrian collision warnings, blind spot monitoring, lane-departure alerts, driver fatigue detection and speed limit warning systems.

Passengers and drivers will also benefit from improved comfort. The buses feature upgraded driver seats with integrated heating and cooling systems. For passengers, the new fleet has a two-door design to allow quicker boarding and alighting, and includes USB and USB-C charging ports for greater convenience, along with larger digital onboard screens that provide real-time travel information.

This investment forms part of Malta Public Transport’s broader strategy to support the country’s transition toward more sustainable mobility.
