Malta Stock Exchange celebrates excellence at Annual Awards Dinner 2024

The Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) hosted its prestigious Annual Awards Dinner 2024 at the Phoenicia Hotel on Friday, 15 November. The event was very well attended with over 180 distinguished guests present.

MSE Executive Chairman, Joseph Portelli, kicked off the gala evening.  In his welcoming speech Mr Portelli expressed his satisfaction in hosting the evening’s event. “Every year the Awards Night gets more popular. It’s a fabulous opportunity to get together with friends and colleagues who are instrumental in shaping and driving the capital markets” he said.

The Minister for Finance, Clyde Caruana, was among the distinguished guests who addressed the audience during the evening. In his speech, Minister Caruana expressed his optimism about Malta’s continued economic growth in the coming years.

A total of three awards were distributed during the evening, he first award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented by Joseph Portelli to Martin Scicluna, the Chair at J. Sainsbury’s plc.  Scicluna was recognised for his distinguished career in the UK.

The second award, the Company of the Year Award was presented by Simon Zammit, Chief Executive Officer at the Malta Stock Exchange, to Dr Gordon Cordina, Chairman, and Kenneth Farrugia, Chief Executive Officer at Bank of Valletta plc, in recognition for the Bank’s outstanding performance.

The third award was presented by Alfred Sammut, Chief Human Resources and Corporate Services Officer.   The Employee of the Year award was presented by Sammut to Christian Zahra, IT Manager at Exchange’s Information Technology Department. Zahra was honoured for his exceptional service to his fellow employees.

A memento for his services, was presented to Cliff Pace upon his retirement in recognition for his service during the past eight years as Head of the Malta Stock Exchange Institute.
