Malta Vision 2050 is more than just a document; it represents our collective commitment to shaping the future of our country. This was emphasised by the Minister for the Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, during the Envision 2050 conference, which is being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
The minister explained that, after months of consultations with various stakeholders, Malta Vision 2050 is being crafted around four key pillars:
1. Sustainable economic growth
2. Quality of life
3. Improving the country’s resilience
4. Smart land usage
Minister Schembri highlighted that the development process of Malta Vision 2050 has been structured and transparent. Extensive research and analysis were conducted to identify the country’s successes, opportunities, and challenges. This provided a clear understanding of the sectors requiring the most attention. Malta was benchmarked against other countries, and best practices from abroad were assessed and adapted to suit the realities of our nation. A framework was then created to integrate sectoral strategies, ensuring that Malta Vision 2050 serves as an overarching guide that unites all strategic initiatives under one cohesive vision.
“Over the past months, we engaged with stakeholders across all areas of society; unions, the MCESD, NGOs, academics, youth, citizens, and you, our business community. Your expertise is critical to Malta Vision 2050. You are instrumental in shaping the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of our country. Together, we must tackle the challenges you face. Your successes in different areas highlight Malta’s potential to compete internationally. Today, we are not here to present our ideas but to engage in a dialogue to build the future of our country together,” stated Minister Silvio Schembri.
The Minister thanked all stakeholders for their active participation and valuable input throughout this process. “Your contributions are fundamental to shaping the Malta Vision 2050 document and ensuring its success in guiding our country’s future development,” concluded Minister Schembri.
Several workshops on various themes related to this vision will take place between today and tomorrow. The conference will conclude on Friday 31 January.
