The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index (RPI) in Malta increased to 1.9% in June, up from 1.87% in May, according to the latest figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
In addition, the twelve-month moving average rate for June stood at a 1.62% rate, as the NSO figures show.
The highest annual inflation was recorded in the sectors of food (4.24%) and housing (2.39%). Moreover, the lowest was registered in water, electricity, gas and fuels (0.03%), household equipment and household maintenance costs (0.20%).
The largest upward impact was in the food index, with +0.91 percentage points, due to higher prices of take-aways. While the second and the third were measured in the transport and communication index (+0.40pp) and in the housing index (+0.19pp), mainly due to higher prices of fuels and house maintenance services, respectively.
Moreover, no downward impacts were reported.
