Maltese businesses expand in Rwanda

During an official visit to Rwanda, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg visited two Maltese businesses which expanded their operations in this country, also with the assistance of Trade Malta.

Minister Borg had the opportunity to visit the workers and management of the Salvo Grima company that operates in the logistics and distribution sector. Clyde Micallef, general manager of the company in the African continent, explained the work being done and how the business has integrated in this country and the surrounding area and how the company employs more than 100 employees in the country.

On the other hand, Minister Borg also visited the company TrustStamp which operates in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Head of technology Scott Francis claimed that it is an honour to experience the collaboration between the two countries on a daily basis and come up with these innovative services.

The Minister claimed that the Maltese Government will continue supporting more businesses to expand beyond our shores.

During this visit Minister Borg had a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the largest commercial bank in Rwanda, the Bank of Kigali, Dr Diane Karusisi. The possibilities for more Maltese and Gozitan businesses to expand in this very important country in the heart of the African continent continued to be explored. The Minister explained how it is an essential part of Malta’s foreign policy strategy to improve the benefits for businesses that invest here.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs also showed the respect of the Maltese Government at the Kigali Genocide memorial. He honoured the lives of 1 million people who lost their lives in 1994 due to racism and hatred by a number of extremists.
