Minister Ian Borg with several bilateral meetings in Italy

While in Rome, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg continued with a series of bilateral meetings being held in various countries to continue explaining Malta’s work priorities.

Minister Ian Borg had a meeting with the Minister for European Affairs, Cohesion Policy and Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan Raffaele Fitto. During this meeting, the strong relations our countries have which go back to 1964 were discussed. The two ministers discussed the possibility of more cooperation between the two countries also on a European basis, in particular when it comes to the challenges and opportunities that the Mediterranean region is facing from time to time. A topic of priority on the agenda was immigration.

During another meeting, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg met with the Italian Parliamentary Commission for Foreign and Community Affairs led by the Giulio Tremonti and the Members of Parliament Paolo Formentini and Andrea Orsini. The themes of the Mediterranean region and the importance of stability continued to be discussed. Several other current affairs themes were also discussed.

In the last meeting, Ian Borg met Minister for Enterprise of Italy Adolfo Urso to discuss the commercial relationship between the two countries. “Despite the fact that the commercial relations between the two countries are among the best, we still aim to continue improving them. We will continue to work to make our country a strategic place for learning English whilst also increasing tourism between the two countries,” claimed Minister Borg. The two ministers agreed on the need for cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
