New Management Information System (MIS) launched for OHSA

The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) has launched the novel Management Information System (MIS). This novel content management system is specifically designed to streamline and enhance the operational efficiency across all the OHSA’s units.

The Management Information System is currently in use by OHSA employees, marking a significant milestone in the Authority’s digital transformation efforts. This novel system facilitates the management of information being collected by Occupational Health and Safety Officers (OHS) during their daily interaction with OHSA’s duty holders and clients, particularly during their enforcement duties. This take will simplify data sharing between the OHSA’s internal sections, improve quality and security, and facilitate the statistical capture and reporting capabilities of the Authority.

Minister for Justice Dr Jonathan Attard said, “The work being undertaken in the health and safety sector is not limited to changes in legislation and unprecedented investment in human resources, but also includes investment in digital infrastructure.

This new system is an effective tool for our inspectors, which will not only lead to greater efficiency but also to more effective enforcement and enhanced cooperation with other entities in the sector. This is yet another initiative that aligns with both the Government’s work programme for the sector and the implementation of the recommendations from the Jean Paul Sofia public inquiry.”

Hosted on the cloud platform operated by MITA, the Management Information System (MIS) is designed with robust protections securing the transfer of data between users and to the servers. The new system can be accessed via laptops tablets and mobile devices and boasts a comprehensive audit trail of all user actions. Moreover, the system allows users to upload photos and segments all information according to particular areas to suit the Authority’s work operations.

Speaking about the new Management Information System (MIS), CEO at the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) Dr Josianne Cutajar said, “This new web-based management information system will comprehensively address existing deficiencies by implementing several strategic initiatives at the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA). These include automating back-office enforcement processes, providing real-time monitoring tools for management, enhancing data security, transitioning to a paperless environment, and refining enforcement models for more targeted actions.”

Thanks to the digital efficiency of the system OHSA employees will be saving time on administrative tasks and can therefore, focus more on inspections. Furthermore, the system will improve the Authority’s operational efficiency by providing a solid basis to create and log data, and the provision of enforcement effectiveness within the Authority’s framework.

The successful launch of the MIS system represents a significant enhancement to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority’s (OHSA) operational capabilities. With fully equipped OHS Officers in the various units covering construction, engineering, chemicals and biohazards, accidents and all work sectors in general will be utilising internet-enabled tablets, the system is positioned to deliver efficient, real-time reporting and management of tasks. Ongoing monitoring of the system will ensure that it will continuously be updated to serve the evolving demands of the OHSA.
