Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia has announced a new urban greening project in Vittoriosa with an investment of half a million euro.
The site chosen for this project is located on the periphery of Vittoriosa and will therefore also be easily accessible to the residents of Kalkara and Cospicua.
This project will consist of four different areas, including a picnic area equipped with tables and benches and an open green space to be used as a recreation area. There will also be an informal play-area with children’s play equipment, while in a separate area there will be a dog park as well.
Minister Farrugia said that this is another project that will improve residents’ quality of life. Such areas offer a safe place for residents to enjoy green and open spaces close to their homes. Minister Farrugia said that this site will be cleaned and cleared from invasive plants, allowing for the creation of passageways for everyone to enjoy convenient access. In this project, like other similar projects, natural materials such as wood will be used to complement the surroundings.
WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca said that GreenServ is currently working on a number of projects in various locations, including Ħamrun, Żabbar, Luqa and Qormi. GreenServ will also be carrying out work in San Anton Gardens, and is currently conducting the necessary studies to transform St. Anne’s Street in Floriana into a pedestrian zone, and to roof the Santa Venera tunnels.
