Number of tourist arrivals up by 19.5% in first 11 months of 2024 – NSO

Inbound tourists for the first eleven months of 2024 amounted to 3,371,249, an increase of 19.5 per cent over the same period in 2023, the NSO said Thursday. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 12.9 per cent, reaching almost 21.7 million nights.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €3.2 billion, 23.2 per cent higher than that recorded for the same period in 2023. Total expenditure per capita increased to €935 from €906 for the corresponding period in 2023.

The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 1,959,850, or 58.1 per cent of total tourists.

Total inbound tourists for November 2024 were estimated at 262,896, an increase of 20.7 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2023, the NSO said .

During the month under review, a total of 232,176 inbound tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, and 23,652 tourists came for business purposes. The largest share of inbound tourists were aged between 25 and 44 (39.4 per cent), followed by the 45-64 age bracket (35.5 per cent). British, Italian, and Polish residents made up 44.0 per cent of total inbound tourists.

Total nights spent went up by 23.5 per cent when compared to November 2023, surpassing 1.7 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (89.8 per cent) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 6.5 nights.

Total tourist expenditure surpassed €241.0 million, an increase of 35.1 per cent over the corresponding month in 2023. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €141.1.

The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 128,043, or 48.7 per cent of total tourists.
