Down by 1.3% and 1.1% compared with November 2019
In November 2020 compared with October 2020, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 1.4% in the euro area and by 1.2% in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October 2020, production in construction remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.7%in the EU.
In November 2020 compared with November 2019, production in construction decreasedby 1.3% in the euro area and by 1.1%in the EU.
Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State
In the euro area in November 2020, compared with October 2020, civil engineering increased by 3.1% and building construction by 1.0%.
In the EU,civil engineering increased by 3.0% and building construction by 0.7%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (+12.2%), Hungary (+12.0%) and Slovakia (+7.0%). The largest decreases were observed in Romania (‑4.9%), Spain (‑1.4%) and Belgium (‑0.9%).
Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State
In the euro area in November 2020, compared with November 2019, building construction decreased by 1.6% while civil engineering increased by 0.4%.
In the EU building construction decreased by 1.2% and civil engineering by 0.2%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Spain (-13.1%), Belgium (-9.3%) and Slovakia (-8.8%). The largest increases were recorded in Slovenia (+18.4%), Romania (+9.3%) and Hungary (+5.1%).
