Registered full-time employment up 5.3% in February – NSO

In February 2022, registered full-time employment increased by 5.3 per cent while part-time employment as a primary job increased by 5.7 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2021, the NSO said Thursday.

February 2022 Administrative data provided by Jobsplus show that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) in February 2022 increased by 4.6 per cent, reaching 247,924.

This was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the full-time registered employment (12,346) and a decrease in registered unemployment (1,460).

Registered full-time employment

When February 2022 is compared to February 2021, the highest increase in employment was brought about by the accommodation and food services activities and the construction sector, with 1,727 and 1,461 persons respectively.

Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 11,529 persons to 195,232. Public sector full-time employment increased by 817 persons to 51,567 (Table 2). The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 932 when compared to February 2021, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 11,414. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 5.0 per cent and 5.7 per cent respectively over 2021 levels .

Registered part-time employment

Registered part-time employment in February 2022 increased by 10.5 per cent when compared to the same month in 2021. Professional, scientific and technical activities followed by the accommodation and food services activities recorded the highest increases in part-time employment with 1,080 and 748 persons respectively. The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 37,303 up by 15.1 per cent, when compared to the corresponding month in 2021. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 32,963, up by 5.7 per cent when compared to the same month in 2021.
