Ryanair launches ‘record’ winter schedule with 5 new routes

Ryanair today announced its new winter schedule, including routes to five new destinations from Malta which are Bordeaux, Bournemouth, Lisbon, Shannon and Stockholm.

During a press conference on Thursday, Ryanair CEO Micheal O’Leary said that the company has invested over €620 million in Malta, with six new based aircraft, two of which are new Boeing 737 “Gamechanger” aircraft that carry 4% more passengers whilst burning 16% less fuel and 40% less noise. 

This investment also includes a new maintenance hangar facility, which is expected to start operating coming November.

O’Leary said that with its new winter schedule for the country, it will be supporting over 500 direct jobs and operating a total of 55 routes (including the additional new five announced), which will result in an estimate of around 300 flights per week.

The CEO also announced the opening of Ryan Air’s famous seat sale, with flight prices starting from €19.99 until the 24 of this month, for travel between October and March of next year.

“Ryanair is also a major investor in the Maltese economy having committed over €620m to the island with 6 based aircraft – including 2 greener B737 “Gamechangers”- and our new state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance hangar, supporting 500 direct highly paid aviation jobs on the island. This investment underlines Ryanair’s commitment to Malta’s economy with industry-leading aircraft operations and maintenance, and we continue to work closely with the Maltese Govt in leading Malta’s post-Covid tourism traffic and jobs recovery,” he said.

He also added that Ryanair is aiming to score an A rating in the next Carbon Disclosure Project, which is a non-profit organisation helping cities and companies disclose their environmental impact.

In December 2021, the airline was awarded a B, on climate protection from the NGO.

“This rating shows an improvement on Ryanair’s rating for the previous year (‘B-’) and recognises the significant work that Ryanair has undertaken to manage its environmental impact to date.”
