Stargate Studios Malta has announced the launch of a new Academy which will start offering courses specifically aimed at providing students with specialised knowledge and skills in specific areas of Visual Effects, all the while shaping them into industry- ready hires.

Referring to this new initiative, Stargate Studios Managing Director Matthew Pullicino said that an academy within the walls of the Studio is unique, ”as it will not only be designed and ‘Stargate’ branded, but will also take place in our facility, giving students a taste of the real-world experience and first-hand knowledge of what the VFX industry is all about.” He concluded by saying that the Stargate Studios team, who will be teaching, are perfectly poised to provide excellent guidance and relevant mentorship, as they are themselves engaged daily with the challenges of working in the TV and film industry.

The first course which will be offered by the Stargate VFX academy will be one for entry level compositing.

Stargate Studios General Manager, Reuben Sciberras said that this Course is very industry-specific within a real-world learning environment geared for those who want to dip their toes in the vast world of visual effects. “It will allow participants to experience the magic of the  movie business and enable them to take the first steps  of their journey in this wonderful world. We hope that applicants will be as excited as we are to embark on this journey!”

The Course, spread over 4 months, includes a 12-week tuition programme and a further 4 weeks dedicated to the final project: the development of a polished and professional showreel and portfolio. The Course offers an opportunity for individuals to enter the high-demand field of compositing, with a comprehensive introduction to 2D, covering essential skills such as seamless layer compositing, rotoscoping, prep work, keying, camera tracking, and colour correction. Through practical learning, participants will become familiar with industry-standard software like Nuke and gain insights into real studios and pipelines.
