More than 40 artists have gathered their artworks in collective art exhibition “Pink” raising funds for breast cancer research, according to a press statement sent to Business Malta. The exhibition is open 19-31 October at Gallery 23, Idmejda Street, Balzan.

The exhibition emerged out of Michelle Gialanze’s idea who is also one of the participating artists. The initiative wishes to support breast cancer research through the University of Malta’s (UM) Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT), according to the press statement by the UM.

The paintings exhibited which all have a splash of pink are all works of renowned and aspiring artists and they range from landscapes to nudes. This exhibition offers a great opportunity for art aficionados to experience quality art while supporting breast cancer research.

Set up in 2011 as an autonomous support platform, the RIDT is striving to further the advancement of research, innovation and development in all areas of study, knowledge and activity in Malta. By encouraging high-calibre research through the fund, the University of Malta will continue to deliver tangible outcomes leading to a better quality of life.

EDITORIAL NOTE: In Malta, the National Health Screening Services administers the National Cancer Screening Register — for breast cancer, colorectal cancer and cervix cancer screening. Further information about the screening services is available through the webpage of the official body.

“A screening test tries to find a disease before there are any symptoms. With breast cancer, there’s a misconception that if you feel fine, don’t have a lump, and have no family history of breast cancer, you’re okay. The truth is that three-quarters of the women in whom we find breast cancer have no risk factors. So screening is important for everyone,” according to a quote by Susan Greenstein Orel, M.D., posted on the related subpage of the Government of Malta.

The post Art exhibition ‘Pink’ raises funds for breast cancer research first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

Marigold Foundation raises a record of €210,000 during the Pink October Campaign 2018, while educates the masses and raises awareness at the same time.

Marigold Foundation raised a record of €210,000 during the Pink October Campaign 2018, according to a press conference held on Thursday at Mater Dei Hospital.

The main aim of the campaign was to educate the masses and raise awareness related to regular checkups and screening to help prevent breast cancer from becoming severe for patients.

Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of Marigold Foundation, tagged the Pink October Campaign 2018 as a success. In her opinion, additionally to the money raised, awareness was also spread thanks to their advocacy.

Mrs Muscat said during the press conference that out of what they had been able to raise during the campaig, €100,000 will be used to provide a complementary therapy program for current and newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, managed by Mater Dei Hospital’s breast cancer specialists. The rest €110,000 will be distributed among NGOs including Breast Care Europa Donna, Karl Vella Foundation, Hospice Malta, Puttinu Cares, Action for Breast Cancer and a sum is donated to RIDT to be used for research purposes, according to a press statement issued by the department or government services and information.

Medical professionals advise women to be vigilant about breast cancer detection. Should any changes be discovered, such as a new lump or skin changes, doctors must be consulted immediately. At the same time, doctors should be consulted to find out how regularly mammograms and other screenings should be carried out, based on the history of individuals.

“Be fearless in the fight against cancer” reads the Pink October Campaign 2018 message on their website. “Our aim is to bring awareness about breast cancer to women in Malta. One in eight women will face the fight against cancer during her lifetime. However, early detection can help save lives. Detecting cancer at an early stage requires education and support,” the website adds.

If you want to become an advocate or are planning to donate for their cause, please visit their website.
