Brice Kemper has been appointed General Manager of the Phoenicia Hotel Malta with effect from 29 July, according to a company announcement published by Phoenicia Finance Company Plc on the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE). The company has terminated its hotel management agreement in respect of the Phoenicia Hotel with effect from 25 March, the announcement adds.

Mr Kemper was the Resident Manager of the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap D’Antibes on the French Riviera. He has decades of experience in the hospitality sector, having worked in high-end hotels across the globe.

He started his career in the late 1990s, working for The Lodge at Vail in Vail Valley, Colorado, before moving to New York where he spent two years at the five-star The Peninsula, on 5th Avenue, as Front Office Manager. Moving to France, Mr Kemper held managerial positions at the Four Seasons Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, and the Vista Palace Hôtel, both on the Côte D’Azur.

The company expects the appointment to strengthen the group’s commitment in order to retain its current position as a leading luxury five-star hotel in the local hospitality sector, the announcement says.

Terminating management

Having taken immediate effect on 25 March, the company terminated the hotel management agreement in respect of the Phoenicia Hotel, the announcement says.

However, the termination is not expected to have any material impact on the guarantor’s operations, the company says in the announcement. It has reverted to trading as an independent hotel for the foreseeable future, with continuous investment in operational excellence.

In addition, the Phoenicia Hotel’s membership in “The Leading Hotels of the World”, governed by a hotel membership agreement entered into between the Guarantor and Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) Services on 1 December 2015.

The company announcement is available for public view on the official website of the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE).

The post Phoenicia Hotel names new GM, terminates old management first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

The profile of a typical investor in Malta was discussed during a seminar organised for Bank of Valletta’s (BOV) financial advisors, delivered by Antonietta Bonello, author of a publication based on the statistical data from 370 responses to a questionnaire directed at active Maltese investors, according to a press release published by BOV.

Ms Bonello’s research sheds light on the major characteristics of the local financial investors who trade on the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE), delving into variables affecting the investor’s trading decisions. The explored key areas included investor expectations, returns of investment, risk and loss aversions, disposition effect, financial literacy, and overconfidence.

In addition, the study analysed the influence of financial advisors on the investor’s risk appetite. In fact, Ms Bonello substantiated her findings through interviews with 29 financial advisors operating in different localities around Malta and Gozo to corroborate her research findings, the press statement says.

Furthermore, the Executive Wealth Management Mark Agius emphasised the importance of determining the profile of the investor. “These have to go hand in hand with well-managed and diversified assets,” added Mr Agius.

“Diversification across equities, bonds and money-market instruments helps mitigate any negative economic effects and ensure the long-term viability of your assets,” he added,

“The profile of an investor is the sum of their values, lifestyle, financial resources, timeframes and tolerance to risk. We have full confidence that our financial advisors have the skills and tools to determine the investor’s profile and tailor a specific portfolio to satisfy these criteria and achieve the customer’s goals,” concluded BOV Director Paul V Azzopardi.

The post BOV holds talk focusing on investors in Malta first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

The exit of the data-driven creative marketing agency Anchovy from the delivery service Fetch It has been announced by the founding brothers Benji and Zak Borg, according to a press release sent to Business Malta. The brothers say the leave is “amicable” and rather practical as they still have full belief in the venture.

Founded in late 2016 and launched in early 2017, Fetch It was launched aiming to revolutionise the transportation of goods and products in Malta.

“Our key contributions came purely through a marketing and tech focus, arguably elements which were mostly needed to get the company off the ground. We realised we had less to contribute in terms of the ongoing operational endeavours of the company, which were now naturally the central focus of this business model,” said Zak Borg.

As Anchovy was going through the arduous process of going public on the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE), the Borg brothers say they felt it was time to part ways with Fetch It.

“It was not a case of pulling out because we did not believe in the business. We believe in Fetch It wholeheartedly and we still do to this day. We as Anchovy simply felt that we could not continue investing our time in this venture and could no longer contribute as profoundly as we did to the business, given its stage,” added Zak Borg.

“While it was really sad to part ways with such a great business, it also proved a great learning curve for us, being our first exit so to speak. The emotional connection to something you helped build is incredibly strong, so making this decision was especially tough,” continued Benji Borg.

The post Anchovy parts with Fetch It ‘amicably’ first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.

BMIT Technologies Plc, a subsidiary of GO Plc, was formally listed on the Malta Stock Exchange on Friday, after an initial public offering (IPO), during which institutional and general investors subscribed to close to 99 million shares valued at approximately €49m, according to a press statement issued by GO.

“We are truly humbled by the unwavering support and confidence shown in the company. The response to this offering was as overwhelming as it was encouraging, and an affirmation of our ongoing commitment to ensure that our investments bring more value to all stakeholders, in particular, our shareholders,” said Nikhil Patil, CEO of GO Plc, in a company announcement issued earlier that week.

“This is another milestone in GO’s success story which reflects a forward-looking organisation that is building its future growth on strategic investments,” added Mr Patil. “Such processes allow us to reinvest in areas that will create greater value, both for our shareholders and customers, and ultimately, the economy as a whole,” he concluded.

BMIT Technologies Plc commenced its trading activity on the main regulated market of the Malta Stock Exchange on Monday, under the BMIT ticker symbol.

The post GO’s BMIT enters bourse after IPO first appeared on The Malta Business Weekly.
