The Malta Medicines Authority launches the Strategy to 2025

The Malta Medicines Authority Strategy launched its strategy up until 2025. This will serve as an essential roadmap and paves the way for a resilient and sustainable vision for the authority in the next five years. The Malta Medicines Authority Strategy to 2025 includes six overarching goals aimed to reinforce the position of the authority to navigate through market challenges and contribute towards excellence in medicines and medical device regulation.

During the launch, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo said that “The Medicines Authority works in a successful manner by ensuring that the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines and medical devices are kept at the forefront of its activities. The Medicines Authority has been re-engineered to broaden its scope of operations, fulfil new obligations and cope with the increasing volume of activity.” He concluded by saying “I look forward to the outcomes of this strategic plan and to witness this Authority’s continued successes in meeting medical needs and strengthening areas of scientific excellence.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Rights and Public Cleansing Deo Debattista remarked that the Malta Medicines Authority is internationally recognised as an efficient, sustainable entity at the forefront of regulatory science. This is accomplished by an inherent commitment to quality and scientific principles that benefit patients and stakeholders. Debattista concluded that the Malta Medicines Authority’s track record shows that it is well equipped with the necessary expertise and skills to confidently take on challenges and turn them into an opportunity of success while keeping the patient at the centre of its endeavours.

Prof. Anthony Serracino-Inglott said that: “The success of the Authority is due to the excellent teamwork and outstanding qualifications of its staff who tirelessly work towards ensuring accessibility to high quality, effective and safe medicines. This was shown recently with the participation of the Authority in the success of the COVID-19 vaccination programme where the Authority worked shoulder to shoulder with the Superintendent of Public Health who also has the Licensing Authority.”

The Malta Medicines Authority continues to embrace investment and initiatives to establish Malta as a centre for educational development, scientific research, and innovation in regulatory sciences, considering national and global exigencies and emerging circumstances.
