Unemployment falls in July 2025 – NSO

The number of people registered as unemployed stood at 1,012 in July 2025, marking a year-on-year decrease of 109 individuals compared to the same month in 2024, according to data published by Jobsplus.

The decline included 106 fewer individuals under Part I of the unemployment register and three fewer under Part II. Men continued to make up the majority of job seekers, accounting for 65.9 per cent (667 individuals), while women represented 34.1 per cent (345 individuals).

The most notable decrease was recorded among those aged 45 and over, with 48 fewer registrants compared to July 2024, a drop of 10.2 per cent.

A downward trend was also observed across all categories of registration duration. The steepest fall was among individuals unemployed for less than 21 weeks (down by 58), followed by those registered between 21 and 52 weeks (down 28) and those unemployed for over a year (down 23).

The number of persons with a disability seeking work also declined, falling by 23 to 207 individuals. Men made up 75.8 per cent of this group.

In terms of job preferences, the highest proportion of both male and female registrants sought roles as clerical support workers, accounting for 26.8 per cent of men and 38.0 per cent of women on the unemployment register.
