Virtu Ferries has announced the acquisition of a strategically located 24,000 square meter site overlooking the Port of Pozzallo from the Regione Siciliana, marking a major investment in regional logistics infrastructure.

With a total investment of €6 million, the new Virtu Ferries Logistics Hub is set to become a critical gateway for trade between Sicily and Malta. The facility will offer a state-of-the-art base of operations for logistics companies and distributors involved in import and export between Malta and Italy.

The development will include:

  • A modern Business Centre
  • Dedicated office spaces
  • Parking for light vehicles
  • Trailer parking facilities
  • Storage and warehousing areas
  • Accommodation facilities for commercial vehicle drivers

This new hub is designed to support and enhance Virtu Ferries’ already efficient Fast Track Cargo service, further streamlining logistics and strengthening economic ties between Italy and Malta.

“This initiative represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen Virtu Ferries’ leadership on the Sicily-Malta maritime route,” said a company spokesperson. “We are proud to contribute to the development of regional infrastructure and provide innovative logistics solutions to our partners.”

Virtu Ferries extends its sincere appreciation to the Italian authorities particularly the Regione Siciliana and the Assessorato Regionale del Territorio e dell’Ambiente for their cooperation and support in bringing this project to fruition.

“It is extremely encouraging to see the Italian authorities believe in our high-speed catamaran service and recognize the investments and hard work we have dedicated to the Sicily-Malta route,” the spokesperson added.

This project forms part of a broader series of strategic initiatives by Virtu Ferries aimed at maintaining and expanding its role as a key player in maritime transport between Italy and Malta for years to come.

Virtu Ferries is an Authorized Regular Shipping Service operating as per EU legislation and is also classified as an Essential Service. The company operates two of the largest fast ferries in the world with over 1,500 voyages per year between Malta and Sicily.
