VisitMalta Now: Celebrating the reopening of Malta’s borders

The Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection and the Malta Tourism Authority will be organising a spectacular event on July 1st 2020, coinciding with the reopening of Malta’s airport to commercial flights.

Titled ‘VisitMalta Now’, this celebration will involve the participation of 31 different fireworks factories in 21 localities around Malta and Gozo. These factories will be working in unison to present a national pyrotechnic show on an unprecedented scale, focusing on themes that include Maltese traditions, heritage, culture and victory.

The Maltese Islands will be divided into six districts, each showcasing the talent and artistry of the local manufacturers of traditional fireworks know amongst the best in the world. Also, all local feast clubs will be decorating their clubs and flagpoles, and thus will support in creating a festive colourful sensation across the whole islands.

Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli expressed her satisfaction that our islands are on the verge of welcoming tourists once more.

“Many were skeptical that we could arrive at this stage this quickly, but we managed, thanks to the efforts of countless people. On 1 July we shall celebrate reaching this goal in the context of our promise that there will be summer. We started delivering on that promise and our commitment towards this goal takes on a new dimension on the 1 July”, said Minister Farrugia Portelli.

Johann Buttigieg, Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority stated that, “this global pandemic has created worldwide turmoil, disrupting lives and impacting economic activity, everywhere. Tourism had to be put temporarily on hold. The fact that our borders will be reopening once again is cause for celebration as we welcome visitors from abroad who chose Malta as their first post-COVID destination”.

VisitMalta Now will be held on the 1 July 2020 at 8.30pm.
