This project also involves the expansion and modernization of the Middle School in Victoria, Gozo.
Following the laying of the Foundation Stone of the new Victoria Primary School in Gozo by the Minister for Education and Employment, the Hon. Owen Bonnici, together with the Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Clint Camilleri, on the 2nd of November, we are publishing the artistic impressions of how the school will look like when completed.
This project involves the construction of a new primary school at Victoria (Gozo) which will replace the current one and which is about 160 years old. The new school will accommodate about 400 students. In the new school building there will also be a kindergarten, a childcare center and several sports facilities.
As part of this project, the Middle School which is on the same site will be refurbished and extended.
This project is being carried out with an investment of around € 10 million.
This project is being done after the FTS invested approximately €700,000 over the past months in the creation of new laboratories for vocational subjects at the Senior School at Victoria, Gozo. The Ministry for Education and Employment, through the FTS, opened laboratories and workshops in all Senior Schools throughout Malta and Gozo. This is to give students the opportunity to, if they wish, learn and train in different vocational subjects. Topics include: information technology, engineering, tourism and hospitality, body and hair care, media literacy, textiles and sewing, agribusiness, retailing and health & social care. Thus, students who finish school at Form 5 and do not want to pursue with their studies, may be better prepared for the labour market in various sectors.
These capital projects complement an investment of over €5 million in the educational infrastructure in Gozo over the past years, namely the refurbishment of the primary schools at Ta’ Sannat, Ix-Xewkija, and Ix-Xagħra, the refurbishment at the MCAST Campus at Għajnsielem, as well as the construction of a new lecture block at Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form at Victoria.
Following the laying of the Foundation Stone, works will commence in the coming weeks.
