With a €250,000 investment, around ten government buildings will benefit from photovoltaic panels reaching up to 15kWp. Ministries, Government Departments and public entities interested in this initiative are encouraged to submit their expression of interest, were €25,000 are being allocated for each project.
This initiative was announced by the Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli together with the Energy and Water Agency Chief Executive Manuel Sapiano.
“The public sector is giving more visibility as through this initiative we are promoting renewable energy so that as a country we continue moving towards decarbonisation. With this initiative we will generate 240MWh per year, of which means 100 tonnes less CO2 emissions per year,” remarked Minister Dalli.
Minister Dalli added that the public service is an example on shifting towards renewable energy through generation of renewable energy.
“Through this initiative we are ensuring stability, whilst addressing climate change, as well as improving air quality,” concluded Minister Miriam Dalli.
The scheme will contribute towards the country’s target on Renewable Energy established in the National Plan for Energy and Climate, where public buildings are identified as an important resource for the installation of renewable energy.
This initiative will aim to achieve three Sustainable Development Goals :
- SDG 7 – Affordable Clean Energy
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
