WasteServ has reinforced its Waste Acceptance Unit by engaging additional inspectors to oversee the proper disposal of all waste entering its facilities.

This was announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia during a visit to ECOHIVE Complex, where he met the new recruits.

The Minister explained that these inspectors will also play a key role in reporting any non-compliance to the new site rules that will come into force as of today. These rules are meant to ensure the safety of all those making use of WasteServ’s facilities and to help prevent injury.

He said that, by engaging more inspectors, WasteServ has almost doubled the number of inspections made. This has resulted in increased monitoring to ensure proper waste disposal.

WasteServ Chairperson Profs Frank Bezzina said that WasteServ is continually improving its operations and that the new site rules will enhance its enforcement system within its facilities.

WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca explained that the inspectors’ role is to visually check the waste delivered at its receiving areas, including waste delivered to the landfill. Photos of the delivered material during unloading are also taken as evidence to ensure compliance with the waste declaration made by waste collectors at the point of entry.
